I've waited a couple of years for this movie to come out. I wanted to be the 1st person to see this movie. I took PTO on my job just to see this movie. I've seen an early screening of "Oz the Great & Powerful" at 8pm on March 7th, and I must tell you this is absolutely the very best fantasy movie I've ever seen! I won't throw you any spoilers. It was so incredible how they used lots of elements from the 1939 "Wizard Of Oz" movie to tie into this prequel. It all fits and makes since like a puzzle. Their was a lot of humor, special effects and action to keep your eyes opened and interested from the very start to the very end of this movie! There is even a joke within the middle of the movie for it not being a musical like the 1st movie. All actors done a terrific job especially James Franco. Didn't know Franco could be such a humorous actor! This movie is too great to watch as a DVD rental. You absolutely must see this movie in a theater in 3D as soon as possible or you may regret it!

The movie had vivid coloring, great imaginative scenery and effects. But moved very slow in the beginning, almost to the point of boring. I would not watch again-or recommend.

I saw this movie twice this week. Once on Tuesday with my son and his fiance and we saw it without 3D because neither of them like to watch 3D movies. I, on the other hand, love them. All through the movie I kept thinking how wonderful everything would look in 3D so yesterday I went by myself and watched the 3D version. Fantastic!!! Awesome story of how Oz got there in the first place. James Franco was the perfect Oz. I would venture to say he may well become the new Johnny Depp. It's hard to give a review of this wonderful film without adding a spoiler so I'll just close by saying you will love how everything leading up to the end plays out and how it relates to the future coming of Dorothy. Hmm...will Disney now do a remake with Dorothy and the gang? I'd go see it :)

Oz, the Great and Powerful, actually references the first Wizard of Oz movie, rather than L. Frank Baum's book as has sometimes been stated. Regardless, except for the good special effects, I was unimpressed by this movie. The flying monkey and the China girl seemed contrived, nauseatingly hokey, and totally superfluous to the plot. The flying monkey resembled the flying monkeys in the first Oz movie, but there were no others like him and then there were those evil flying baboons? What's up with that? It made no sense. Many parts of the movie dragged on. Too much time was spent establishing the Wizard as a lothario and a jerk; okay, we get it. I agree with others who have said that the acting on the part of the leading characters was poor, though no one could fill Margaret Hamilton's wicked witch shoes. The plot and script were weak as well; the explanation of how the witches got to be the way they were just didn't work. I'm glad I saw this movie but I was disappointed.

I liked it! I was entertained and intrigued with their presentation. Wanting to see the yellow brick road and Oz again; loved the little flying monkey and the china girl. Lots of boobs and kissing of witches ....not too much for me, but, did they have to add so much for kids? I guess the young ones today are accustomed to seeing all that... 3D was low key... I didn't get dizzy, just right, I thought.
So for the family; it works, just scarey like the original Wizard of Oz...Enough adult humor to keep us adults entertained and the kiddos in the dark...
