Decent movie but starts slowly. The B and W scenes go on way too long and even after arriving in OZ it doesn't get interesting until well into the story. But it is a nice prequel to he classic original and the evil sisters back story is the redeeming factor in an otherwise fluffy display of special effects. 3 out of 5 stars.

From the beginning one realizes this isn't yesterday's 3D! Perhaps even more so than the color portions of the film, the B&B 3D (at the start) was remarkable if for no other reason than one is not so distracted by the amazing colors later. During the remaining pumped-up color scenes the 3D was spectacular although I felt the backgrounds fell a bit flat.
The story is fun if a bit different than expected based on the "original" film. Given its length, I'm not sure much more could be done to create more interest in the characters; perhaps this will wait for the next release (spoiler alert:) since there is a witch waiting to come back!
Overall I'd say this is a very good film with excellent visuals including the monkey and baboons. I don't believe I'd necessarily take children under say 10 but the scary scenes are reasonably light and brief.
Go see this movie. It was fun!

What a total and complete waste of time and money. Even youngsters will find it difficult to sit through! Poor acting. Franco at his worst. Story line non-existent. Special effects limited. There was no need to make it or see it in 3D. Would have walked out, my took a group of younsters from my community so we sat through it with alot of shuffling in our sears, taking bathroom breaks, etc. Two of the kids felt asleep. Others were reading their smartphone messages and surfing the web. I usually don't condone these phone behaviours in a film house but the film was totally mindless. Way, way off the mark.

Fell asleep. Special effects were over the top. So was Franco's over-playing his role.
How come Glinda had no-lingering effects of being repeatedly zapped with green lightning? Oz mugged like he was going for a cross between Clark Gable and Gene Wilder. Overall, it seemed like a high tech melding of The Wizard of Oz and Wicked but with none of the charm and none of the great music...

Truly fantastical film. The story was great and moved along nicely. I like 3D only to enhance the film not as a crutch to a bad story. This one was a fun-filled adventure for young and old alike.
