Great 3D Effects... (Not So) Powerful Pace

I have been waiting for this movie for months and was at the first local showing. It's a good movie and the 3D effects are awesome. But, the pace of this story-driven movie was a little too slow for me; the back-story for the Wizard of Oz is now filled in. Based upon the trailers, I was expecting a faster paced movie and a little more action. Still a good movie and I think the kids will love it!

Movie Was Great. Theater - Not So Much

My wife and I saw "Oz, The Great And Powerful 3D" opening weekend. My wife is an avid "Wizard of Oz" fan to the point of obsession. We thoroughly enjoyed the movie. That is, what we could hear. The theater (AMC Grapevine Mills 30, Theater #7) was having audio issues to the point that it was extremely difficult to hear/understand the dialogue. I asked a staff member if they could look at it and nothing happened. After we got home from the theater, I noticed that a friend of mine had just tweeted that he was in that same theater (number 7) the night before and they had the same issue. If they were having technical issues with the sound system all weekend, then they should have taken that theater offline. Movie tickets cost too much these days for moviegoers to endure a mediocre experience.

Franco is a disappointment!

3 amazing women, a fine supporting cast and quality special effects do not make up for the fact that James Franco does not have a lick of acting ability. I'm hard pressed to think of a worse choice than him.

Franco was a terrible choice as Oz and delivered a forgettable thin performance. The plot was cute but unsuspenseful as anyone who saw the original new who would live and how it would turn out. Strictly for kids. This did not bridge any age groups as far as I could see. The new Alice In Wonderland was more interesting plotwise and better acted although just as pretty to view. Its sad that so much creativity in terms of animation, costuming, etc. is wasted on old stories and themes instead of newly created plots and concepts. An example of this level of craftmanship well used would be Avatar. It will make some money, but all this effort should really be toward much loftier goals than building already established brands and entrenched stories.

Oz The Great and Powerful 3D

The effects were great. The characters were very memorable. Children of all ages will enjoy the magical adventure to Oz. The story linked most everything from the original Wizard with Judy Garland. The only thing I didn't see was the story behind the "Ruby Slippers". I will buy the DVD when available and enjoy the movie again and again.
