Oz, the Great and Powerful 3D prequel to the one with Dorothy, is pretty much all that until about five-eighths of the way through when everyone sort of loses interest and kind of shuffles around in metaphysical 2D existential symbiosis until the last ten minutes or so when they all suddenly remember why they are making this movie: FRANCHISE!
Also, I thought Munchkins had "no tall people" in Oz's CC&Rs. Must have come later.

I have been waiting for this movie for months and was at the first local showing. It's a good movie and the 3D effects are awesome. But, the pace of this story-driven movie was a little too slow for me; the back-story for the Wizard of Oz is now filled in. Based upon the trailers, I was expecting a faster paced movie and a little more action. Still a good movie and I think the kids will love it!

I really liked the movie. The 3D was pretty awesome! The costumes & makeup were phenominal!!This movie had a good guy, bad guy and a love interest!! Very kid friendly. The cinematography was excellent, I wanted to stop the movie and rewind, so that I could re-examine the film and identify what I missed.

The effects were great. The characters were very memorable. Children of all ages will enjoy the magical adventure to Oz. The story linked most everything from the original Wizard with Judy Garland. The only thing I didn't see was the story behind the "Ruby Slippers".
I will buy the DVD when available and enjoy the movie again and again.

The acting was sub-par, the casting was horrendous and the effects were less than stellar. 1/4 of the way through I told my husband how disappointed I was in the movie. And that attitude never changed. I was all set to LOVE this movie, being an avid Oz buff....but this just didn't do it for me. The story line was rushed, as if they were just trying to get all the characters introduced quickly so they could get on with it and meet the next character. The dialog was rough and uncomfortable, the natural, believable flow of conversation was not there. You never got lost in the movie, you were always very well aware that these were actors playing a role--they reminded you at every turn.
This is the FIRST movie that I've ever been so disappointed by. I might suggest it for a (much) younger crowd of elementary school kids because they're the only ones that don't care about the actual acting, but the story itself wasn't very good either!! Ugh. What a waste of time and very underwhelming.
