I am a big fan of the '39 movie, if they ever try to remake it, it will never compare. But i am also a big fan of the books written by L. Frank Baum. (not all the crazy ones that were written by others after he died) If you are a fan of the books, you will like this movie :) There are lots of little things taken from the books and trying to figure out what they are makes the movie that much more fun to watch!
The scenery is beautiful, the baboons are scary & the witch is evil!!! What more could you want?! The 3D special effects are fun, if at times a little woozy making. It was very fun to watch.
The story was good & i liked the dynamics between the 3 witches. On it's own, it's a great film, but you have to be able to separate it from the '39 film, if not, you won't like it.
Give it a chance, you won't be sorry!!!

Very entertaining! I love to watch fantasy films, the CG graphics are great and I enjoy the storyline! It's probably not something I'd let any child see though (even though the rating is PG - ratings are pathetic these days) - there are some disturbing scenes that may cause a young child to have bad dreams. Also, if you are a religious family and your child isn't mature/knowledgeable enough about witchcraft and the like, you may want to explain some things before/after the show.

Do I get a refund? The colors are brilliant. It is visually powerful. But, the big drama is a cat fight between sisters? Not a compelling portrayal of the story.
Was the projectionist asleep at the switch? The video stuck on four occassions. So, the moment was spoiled-- several times. And, the screening became an ordainary old dvd. It was just another film/movie and not a pleasant fantasy -- escape. That is why one pays to go to a theatre and extra for a 3-D event.
It may be a home collection piece. Maybe, you could wait?

I enjoyed "Oz" although it didn't have the level of "fun and wonder" that I expected.
The characters were well played and the visuals were great.
It could have used a couple more songs, and the one by the Munchkins shouldn't have been cut short - it was great!
The "more for adults" theme was fine, and since most of it was "implied" kids will be fine with it.
The 3 D was excellent albeit short in some sequences.
I recommend OZ for an enjoyable experience.

First, let me just say that if I was rating the movie itself, I would've rated it a "Go." With that being said, here is what I thought about the 3D aspect of this movie.
This movie is meant to be seen in 3D, period. It was that good. Sam Raimi intended the audience to watch it in 3D, and it shows throughout the movie, with well planned camera shots and angles. Not only is the use of depth present, in scenery and landscapes, there are also plenty of "pop-out' moments. It's not in the sense of things coming within arms reach of the viewer but in the sense that you can tell the objects are flying off screen, or sometimes at you, adding the "before the window" dimension to the film. At times it even felt like I was on a ride. There were no problems with the brightness either. I was able to make out everything in the movie.
Overall, I think it's definitely worth the few extra dollars to see this movie in 3D. No question. I actually want to see it again!
