Oz The Great and Powerful

A feast for the eyes but some very mediocre acting. James Franco and Mila Kunis were pretty awful but Michelle Williams, Zach Braff, Rachel Weisz,, and Joey King saved the movie. I couldn't help but think the entire time I was watching this film that Bruce Campbell in his prime would have made the most AMAZING wizard. I did thoroughly enjoy his cameo, however. Fun to spot Ted Raimi as well. All in all a fun film that kept the spirit of the original Wizard of Oz intact.

Go! Charming flick for the youngsters, But if you're over 50.... the feeling can't be replicated about how we felt the first time, or the second time..... or fifteenth time, we saw "The Wizard of Oz" on Thanksgiving night, on the home TV. I felt the same emptiness, when I saw "Wicked", so it's nobodies fault. Must be a generational 'thing'.

I was really looking forward to this movie for myself and to see if it would be appropriate for my younger grand children. On the plus side the graphics and visuals were really great. On the down side the acting and story line just did not do it for me. Oz, although great to look at, seemed a bit hokey. The three witches did a bit better but were still not very believable. Some of the scenes seemed to drag on and on and others were not well thought out. Fair movie but was disappointed. Will not recommend and will not take the grand kids.

Disappointed

I am a traditionalist and think certain movies should not be touched - but if they do, they must exceed beyond expectations. Unfortunately, Oz missed the mark. The movie relies too heavily on dry slapstick comedy and James Franco delivers a dry, forced almost unbearable performance. I kept hoping there would be a turning point in the movie where it got better, but that never arrived. Visually, it was beautiful and i give high praise to remaining true to the original movie with the first 15 minutes in black and white before the color of Oz. The character of Finley wears on you like JaJa Binks did in the Star Wars prequels. If you grew up loving the Wizard of Oz, i believe you will be disappointed.

while film is artistically spectacular, it does drag in spots and at least 15-20 minutes should have been cut from the film. And WHY didn't they fix that one strand of Glinda's hair? Bothered me the entire movie. Loved Findley the monkey and the china doll. Rushed the characters of the bad witches. While we did not see the 3D movie, you could tell where the 3D effects were. Glad I saw it, will not watch it again on TV when it hits the cable channels
