It's a long way from Cheers for Woody Harrelson! Looked forward to every time he showed up on the screen...terrific at being the guy you love to hate. Almost makes up for the rest of this painfully slow pace of this film. Marketed as fast pace, action/revenge flick, the story is a glacial paced character study. Only meets up with advertised expectations in the last 30 minutes or so.......

This movie is not worth seeing. It has scenes similar to "The Fight Club," which was a a bad movie. There is no real plot to the movie. The only reason I saw this one was because I wanted to see another movie that I had thought started at 1:00PM, but instead started at 1:55PM (and I wasn't going to stick around for an hour). I would've been better off going home, and then gone back another day to see the movie I actually wanted see. (BTW, I did see the movie I wanted to see a couple of days later -- and THAT one was MUCH better).

This is a dark, harsh, depressing, rough, paced, gritty, drama of a movie...and its fantastic! If you don't like this movie, its because you cant appreciate film-making from a slower, harder, lens (think Winters Bone) or your not poor enough, or messed up enough to relate to the story. Not every movie is action or humor, this has a little of it all, including a little love too. The realities of America today, are present in this movie. Maybe people don't like that. Lost jobs, bad jobs, fucked up war vets, violence, struggles for money, gambling, fighting...etc. The movie is about a lot of things...one being revenge. But not your normal revenge movie, people will say it is, but they are just "boxing" things into nice categories...Out of the Furnace is different, similar to "Prisoners" but filmed in a different way. Anyway, I could go on, but its a conflicted mans movie. Tough and real. In addition; Forest, Woody, Bale, Defoe, and Afflick all acted very well.

It was a good movie nonetheless, but not what I expected. This is certainly no action movie. It's a drama. It's a little bit everywhere. There's alot going on and some of it seems irrelevant. Don't expect to be moved.

Could be Woody Harrelson's best role. Christian Bale is as good as ever and some good performances were delivered by Willem Dafoe and Forest Whitaker, Casey Affleck, Zoe Saldana and Sam Shepard. An ex-con, played by Bale, revenges the pointless murder of his brother, played by Affleck.
