I saw La Traviata for the first time during the HD Met series earlier in 2012. This one was SO DIFFERENT!! It was filmed entirely outdoors in the beautiful Sydney Harbor in Australia. The singers were ALL AMAZING, especially Emma, Violetta. She was so stunningly beautiful and heartbreaking. The make-up, hair and costum...es were vibrant and reminded me of a 1950's-1960's carnivale at times! I'm a make-up artist and hairstylist so this made me really happy! This production included drag queens, gypsy dancers, matadors, and slight debauchery! I loved it! I was so pleasantly suprised at how different it was from the Met's version. I will definately purchase this when it comes out on dvd!My only complaint was that BECAUSE it was filmed outside in the harbor, you could at times see huge signs for buildings surrounding the harbor. such as a glaring red "Marriott" sign during a serious love aria. I did find that bothersome and wished they would've put up some sort of huge backdrops to prevent.
