This is an action movie with emphases on the action [it could have been called 'Die Hard in the White House'] . It was filmed on location in Louisiana . Gerard plays the secret service agent protecting Aaron , the President of the United States . After an accident , Gerard is forced to retire and work at the treasury department [it's near the White House] . Rick plays a Korean that leads an elite enemy force that captures Aaron and the White House [Secret Service code name is Olympus] and makes the usual bad guy demands ['I'll kill the President , unless ...'] . It's up to Gerard to save the day [one man in the right place at the right time] . Morgan plays the Speaker of the House [he becomes acting President in Aaron's absence] and Angela is head of the Secret Service .
I really liked it and would buy it on Blu-Ray .

Premise of the movie is ok but development of the premise is terrible. Major characters are written as the prototype of a standard caring President, idiot commander of the military and the Speaker of the House as the guy who knows everything.
Action is great including visual special effects, all aspects of the action deliver. Writers however should give back the money they were paid, script and lines are horrible. Butler delivers terrible lines with almost good grace, he is one of the most believable things about the movie and sells his character well.
If you can leave your brain at home you will enjoy the action. "sorry about the house" and "the house is insured" lines are a sad finish for a good action movie.

It was a good action movie but if you want the real thing follow Mitch Rapp in Vince Flynn's 1999 book, Transfer of Power. For that matter after reading any Mitch Rapp novel you will say Mike Banner who?

I want my 2 hours back. I mean it.
First of all...it looked promising, but this movie sucked.
I kept waiting for Bruce Willis as John McLain to come in and save the day. The CHEEZY one liners made people in the theater grown and giggle.
And...this movie makes the US government look WEAK..not willing to make hard choices to PROTECT MILLIONS of innocent people.
Sorry....wait for DVD ..and then ONLY rent it if you are realllllly drunk.

The formula may be somewhat old as the critics have said but they managed to create a few twists and kept the action rolling. Just believable enough to draw you in throughout most of the movie. The ending got a little ridiculous but all in all worth the money to see. Gerard Butler made a nice transition from the days of "300" to a more modern action star. Morgan Freeman was solid in his minor role.
