There's only one way to put this. "Oblivion" is terrible! The storyline is a mess. My two friends & I couldn't figure out what was going on. The screenplay is shameful. The direction's not good. Tom Cruise is 50 years old now. He should start acting his age. I've always enjoyed his action thrillers, but if he can't do any better than this, he should leave this genre behind, for the good of his career!! He can't keep doing this forever, and "Oblivion" is a good example of why not. Although, to be fair, I don't think Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth together could have saved this movie.
Morgan Freeman must have needed a paycheck really badly!
Avoid this movie at all costs!

This film is basically a beautiful, empty, epic, substance-less film that takes scores of blatantly borrowed elements of other monumental sci-fi films (Matrix, Moon, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Firefly, etc) and stitches them fairly seamlessly but still shamelessly into a sweeping narrative following Jack Harper, a drone repair man working on an abandoned Earth. By incorporating the elements of so many different films, the film hardly gives each the time it takes to address the human implications of each. The characters are fairly flat. While luckily most of the seeming coincidences turn out to be motivated by narrative circumstances, there is a lot of stuff that's clearly produced with the sole intention of wowing the audience, like the visually stunning monolithic landmarks decaying in sediments of a nuclear wasteland, but even this becomes so ubiquitous in the film it loses its wow-factor early on. In other words, Oblivion is so full of nerdgasms that its story gets lost in the noise.

I try to like all films or at least focus on what I like but this one made it difficult. The funniest thing I can say is that to watch TC fight TC was a treat... Finally someone up to the awesomeness. All other characters are less than one dimensional and twist are more predictible than a crueller at Starbucks.
Oblivian of redbox is where you will find this fine gem.

If you are a scifi fan, you'll love this movie. Gorgeous, slick and fast paced after the opening exposition which I didn't mind anyway. I'm tired of critics badmouthing scifi. If you want Shakespeare go see Shakespeare and leave our genre to us who love it.
