I Say See It; But....

This movie kept me engaged throughout and the imagery is great. Cruise did a decent job with the role as did the rest of the cast. But when all is said and done I am once again disappointed that the hype didn't match the product. I left the theater confused and I don't like for movies to confuse me. Who, what, and why? Are not questions to have once the credits roll in my opinion I say GO, so you can judge for yourself.

Entirely skippable

A slow moving piece without a clever ending. You might go if you're a huge fan of Tom Cruise, otherwise I'd recommend skipping. The one thing I liked was some of the sound direction, it has some cool audio effects.

OBLIVION

Very slow to begin with, but faster, more intriguing and action-packed eventually. Slightly confusing, wish I had a book to read to help to clear up the mysteries; well cast and well acted.

Very derivative of other (better) sci-fi movies

Throughout this movie, I was constantly reminded of movies like The Matrix, Planet of the Apes, Moon, 2001 and a little bit of Minority Report (a Cruise movie). Some would say that this is being derivative; others would say that's it's just ripping them off. It looks good and Cruise does a good job with what he has to work with, but I was actually bored through much of it and none of the twists/suprises were really suprising, just confusing. I was hoping for a lot more. I was also disappointed in the Morgan Freeman character (can't remember his name); after a great introduction, he just just kind of fades away and has no real purpose in the movie until the end. His character could've been played by anybody, so all of the passion, fire and talent that Freeman has is wasted. Overall, I'd give it a "C". Not really worth going to the theatre to see; wait for the DVD to rent.
