I loved every second of this movie... Tom Cruise was at his best.. a great script and cast, a very dynamic love story, and a very harsh plot... the world is run by a machine, not human... I felt it was in a way an allegory of our own society in the future, so I could really relate to what happens to humanity!........Historically critics love movies that have blurred morals etc etc... this one was life affirming--family affirming--and had a clear moral aspect. So I would expect critics to pan it. Do not be fooled, this is great. It may not be the best film of all time, but as a sci fi fan, I consider it excellent and loved my experience... I don't know what more I would want, the plot holes the press claimed were non-existent. You have to see this if you like movies at all. Period.

If you are a fan of Tom Cruise, you have to check out his new flick called "Oblivion" which is now in theatres. It takes you to a new world, a world where earth is destroyed and living in ruins. Some are just trying to survive, while others are doing what they can to live. If you want to be taken to a different world, you need to buy a ticket to this movie. It was worth the money and Cruise was excellent as well.

Oblivion: Nerdgasm

By TheFilmosopher

This film is basically a beautiful, empty, epic, substance-less film that takes scores of blatantly borrowed elements of other monumental sci-fi films (Matrix, Moon, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Firefly, etc) and stitches them fairly seamlessly but still shamelessly into a sweeping narrative following Jack Harper, a drone repair man working on an abandoned Earth. By incorporating the elements of so many different films, the film hardly gives each the time it takes to address the human implications of each. The characters are fairly flat. While luckily most of the seeming coincidences turn out to be motivated by narrative circumstances, there is a lot of stuff that's clearly produced with the sole intention of wowing the audience, like the visually stunning monolithic landmarks decaying in sediments of a nuclear wasteland, but even this becomes so ubiquitous in the film it loses its wow-factor early on. In other words, Oblivion is so full of nerdgasms that its story gets lost in the noise.

I Say See It; But....

This movie kept me engaged throughout and the imagery is great. Cruise did a decent job with the role as did the rest of the cast. But when all is said and done I am once again disappointed that the hype didn't match the product. I left the theater confused and I don't like for movies to confuse me. Who, what, and why? Are not questions to have once the credits roll in my opinion I say GO, so you can judge for yourself.

Not Your Typical SciFi for Kids

This is one to see on the big screen. You have allusions to "2001," you have thoughtful, quiet scenes reminiscent of "Blade Runner" and you have some good old fashioned action that even rivals some of the recent stuff. All in all I say if you want a movie that is more than just fun, not to take anything away from the comicbook movies, then you "Must Go!"
