A must go for anyone interested in politics!

I am a political campaign junkie, so I may be more enthusiastic about this brilliant movie than the average person. Having worked in many political campaigns, and run for political office myself twice (won one, lost one), I think this movie really is an excellent portrayal of the internal workings of campaiagns which can be similar no matter what the country is. There are so many moving pieces in a campaign, and there needs to be fantastic teamwork that reacts quickly. This move caught that necessary action.

Whatever your political leanings, left or right, this movie can give you an inspiring look at how good political campaigns can be a force for positive change.

Brilliantly Chronicles Leftist Campaign Against Chile's Pinochet

    by pedsarq

This Spanish-language film offers a brilliant portrayal of the opposition's campaign during Pinochet's last days in office. His crimes against the people of Chile finally come out and the opposition uses it to build a winning ticket. This in a historically accurate account of the election and the outstanding campaign put together by an ad executive, played very well by Gael Garcia Bernal. There are many reasons to see this movie. First and foremost, it's a thrilling historical account that will have you guessing even though it's history and the outcome won't come as a surprise. It also happens to be a great character study of a man in exile who married, had a son, and got a divorce in the country he exchanged for his own. The relationship with his ex-wife is well crafted, as is the love he has for his son. In many ways, this movie also plays like Latin American Mad Men who doing battle for campaigns and pitching ads to executives and politicians.

Solid Move, but a Little Slow

This was a good movie, but does not deserve the over-the-top praise given by the professional movie critics. I was really looking forward to seeing it, and thought I would love it. During the movie, however, I didn't feel the suspense or excitement that the story should have engendered. I found myself thinking about how long it was. I didn't necessarily regret going, but I didn't love the experience.

    it's a good story

The story moved along very well, and it was punctuated with lots of clips from historical sources. The main character is very likeable. As others have stated, if you like historical envents, you are going to enjoy how the filmmakers went about demonstrating how the dictatorship was brought down, and it did so without many of the exagerations that come from one side of the political spectrum or the other. Well balanced. I enjoyed it.

A MUST SEE QUASI DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE TELEVISION CAMPAIGN THAT TOPPELED DICTATOR AUGUSTO PINOCHET'S DICTATORSHIP, 1988 CHILE.

Recently, an erudite mentor posed a question to his twenty-year-old mentees (of mixed backgrounds), ?what makes America great?? Watching this fine film about the sacking of Chile?s dictator, Augusto Pinochet in 1988; an election he felt compelled to initiate; I was pivotally reminded of our free election process; negative campaigning by all parties is simultaneously shunned and accepted; no one fears the tattooing of one?s lawn or the harming of one?s family; we are free to praise or ban at will; one of the myriad of refreshing aspects of living and thriving in a democracy...

    Great movie

Fantastic! Gael GB is one of the actors of our time. His accent was a little off (he didn't sound like a real "chileno")
But over all he is great and so was the whole cast.
His boss was surreal, so great.
