Fun but the Book was Better
If you read the synopsis for the Night Watch movie then you get a sense of epic battle between light and darkness, which the movie delivers. The film is a break through for director Timur Bekmambetov into American Cinema with good effects and an interesting plot that makes you do a double take by the end of the film. The problem is that the entire film covers only the first 3rd of one of the greatest sci-fi fantasy books of all time. The book is less about the battle between good and evil, but Anton trying to understand how he can be a warrior of light, and at the same time allow evil to exist in a balance that must be kept for reasons he doesn't understand. The movie is dark and interesting and well acted, but if you are willing to read more than just subtitles get the book and read it, then read it again. It will leave you stunned and questing every notion you had about the purity of light.
