Sad for me.

Having just cared for my elderly father who passed from Parkinsons, this film brought back a lot of unpleasant memories. I can understand how an audience could view the story of comic. Experiencing such events for real is pretty traumatizing, to say the least. I dd appreciate the filmmaker's artistic cinematography, he is obviously a gifted filmmaker. I am somewhat biased because this film was all too real for me, and could not see the comedy in it. There's not much funny in losing a parent you love so much.

One of the most thoughtful movies I've seen in ages

An insightful story of love and reconcilation; the revelation of lives untold despite the close proximity of its aging characters. Use of black and white imagery and the landscape of the upper Mid-west unscore the complexity of family relationships and their ups and downs. Really a remarkable, thought-provoking and powerful film.

Grey and white - in every aspect -

The visuals were grey and white - not much contrast. Some of the humor was based on the narrow range of emotional affect of the characters - which seemed to be paralleled by the relative flatness of most of the scenery - and overall the emotions were mid-range. Even the ending left me in the middle. Few highs and lows. A dramedy without drama. Interesting for it's exploration of "middleness"
