Story line was good, but didn't go anywhere. Ending left a lot to be desired. Boys were terrific and "Elllis" should be up for an award. There was enough "star power" for this to be a great movie. Missed the mark. Will not buy DVD.

McConaughy keeps getting better and is picking some really good roles. The supporting cast, particularly the young boys, is very good and the story has a timeless feel to it.
This movie has been out for a few weeks and the theater was packed, so it seems that it is receiving strong word of mouth acclaim from viewers and will have a long summer run in a fairly broad distribution.
Not sure if it will receive oscar consideration, but I wouldn't be disappointed if it did.

Excellent movie; great story line; wonderful play between the characters. The boys did a great job and, of course, McConaughey was awesome! I would recommend Mud to anyone. We had a great time watching this movie.

Two boys find a boat in a tree, meet a strange man, and life gets exciting from there on out. A Southern coming of age flick with romance, revenge, gunplay, explosions, and teen logic. Plus an actual plot and believable characters.

I am sorry but this movie was brutal to watch! The plot was agonizing slow and to make matters worse the movie is long! Matthew M. plays a gross looking transient and there is hardly any substantive acting going on. The producers could have picked up a real homeless person off the street to do the same role without paying the millions they pay to these celebrities. Reese Withersppon hardly had a part despite the previews which are misleading. This especially bummed me out since she was a big part of why I wanted to see this film. Now I will say the two young boys do a great job in this film but that's all I can really say about it. I wouldn't spend the money seeing this at the theater. Unless I somehow missed a big subliminal message I thought this movie was very average at best.
