For some reason this movie isn't getting a lot of attention or marketing but is well worth the time. It has a good story and great acting from all characters.

Enjoyed movie...nothing great about it.Don't know why critics raved. Young boys are very good.as well as star...if not better. It was certainly refreshing to not have to see/hear foul language and raw scenes.. It takes a while to get going. Title is rather dumb.Any age can attend this movie.

This movie was extremely enjoyable and the two young newcomers did a fantastic job. Nice to see Matthew in a different type of role as well.. you don't 'have' to see it in the theater but it's worth every penny if you do.

This is a very nice small movie! I must say I love the acting, cinematography, and story. Where else can you meet characters such as Ellis, Neck Bone, and of course, Mud?! I must say I love that one particular island where some, if not much, of the movie takes place. A story that one can get quickly caught up into, and want to watch until the end. I was quite surprised to find a large audience came out to see this film. Enjoyable, even with a weird title character.

This is a story about two 14 year old boys growing up in Arkansas . The boys , Tye & Jacob , live on the river and they find a boat on an island , that is stranded up in a tree [probably from some flooding] . Matthew , who is also on the island , claims that the boat is his [FYI: Mud is his name] and he asks them to help him get it seaworthy again . He also tells the boys that he is waiting for Reese . Joe Don shows up looking for Matthew or Reese , whichever one he can find [he's not picky] . The story is pretty good and the actors are too , but it would have been better if they would have cut a few sub-plots that were not really necessary [it's over 2 hours long] .
It's rated "PG-13" for violence , sexual situations and language and has a running time of 2 hours & 10 minutes .
I don't think I would buy it on DVD but it would be alright as a rental .
