Superbly acted.. especially by the two boys, Sheridan,Lofland and McConaughey. The movie takes it time developing its characters and leaves you feeling like you understand them so well by the end of the movie. Its a great coming of age movie with a twist. I would highly recommend!

Best New Movie This Year

By Great Oz
Written January 27, 2015
After the usual claptrap released through Oscar month, we finally get a worthwhile film. And not just worthwhile, but A-rated. Matthew McConaughhey gets better with each role, but it's the two young boys who steal this picture from him and the scattering of other names in supporting and cameo roles. It's a great coming of age story, packaged as a thriller and a love story. There's lots of swearing, but the film is suitable for pre-teens and up.

Excellent movie; great story line; wonderful play between the characters. The boys did a great job and, of course, McConaughey was awesome! I would recommend Mud to anyone. We had a great time watching this movie.

Charming and artsy but not for the casual movie goer

And that says it all. Some great poetic and parallel themes with fine acting. Several man-woman relationships are undertoned in this suprisingly sweet coming of age film, slighly reminiscent of STAND BY ME.

Agonizing Slow!

By Dimplets

I am sorry but this movie was brutal to watch! The plot was agonizing slow and to make matters worse the movie is long! Matthew M. plays a gross looking transient and there is hardly any substantive acting going on. The producers could have picked up a real homeless person off the street to do the same role without paying the millions they pay to these celebrities. Reese Withersppon hardly had a part despite the previews which are misleading. This especially bummed me out since she was a big part of why I wanted to see this film. Now I will say the two young boys do a great job in this film but that's all I can really say about it. I wouldn't spend the money seeing this at the theater. Unless I somehow missed a big subliminal message I thought this movie was very average at best.
