My 8-year old grandson loved it, of course. It was entertaining for adults as well -- especially if you like sci-fi back to the future stuff.
The characters go way way back in history and I think a lot of the story goes over the kids' heads, but there certainly was enough to entertain them. Mr. Peabody the dog was so cute with his little glasses and bowtie. My grandson's favorite character was Sherman.

The movie was great fun. My 6 year old daughter and 7 year old son really enjoyed it. There were plenty of fun things for grownups too. The kids had a great time.

Full disclosure: "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" was bound to have an uphill battle with me. As a long-time fan of the original TV show, I was skeptical that even Dreamworks could pull this one off. But they did ... mostly.
This isn't Dreamworks' best effort, lacking the zaniness of the Shrek franchise or the heart of "How to Train Your Dragon." Still, it's funny and endearing, with enough agonizing puns to satisfy me and plenty of sight gags for my 11-year-old daughter. The cast is fine - Peabody's voice is close enough - the story unfolds well and the visuals are enjoyable. I wouldn't nominate it for an award, but it's well worth the price of a matinee ticket and a bucket of popcorn.

Although the movie started out slow, it picked up steam about 1/4 of the way in to it. Stick with it because it is worth it! There is definitely a layer of "funny" that will appeal to adults without offending the kids. Both adults and kids can find something they like in this movie. Enjoy!
