Synopsis: Consisting of three adaptations of W. Somerset Maugham short stories, this film follows the tales of a verger, a jewelry dealer, and the patients of a sanatorium. In the first tale, a verger is ousted from the church by a vicar due to his illiteracy, and seeks to become an entrepreneur. "Mr. Know-All" sees an arrogant jewelry dealer make a bet, with a woman's happiness at stake. The third story, "Sanatorium," explores death, rivalry and love as patients improve their health.
