The gods of victory smiled down on the sons of Asgard – both good and evil – at the Hollywood premiere of Thor: The Dark World
Monday night. Legions of screaming fans heralded the arrival of the film’s beloved actors – Chris Hemsworth, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi and Kat Denning – at Hollywood Boulevard’s El Capitan Theatre.
I was on hand to take in the electric atmosphere. I spotted some other famous faces (Jeremy Renner, Chris Hardwick, Karen Gillan, Clark Gregg and Stan “The Man” Lee), chatted with a few of the main stars and, of course, screened the movie (which was beyond brilliant, just so you know).
Now that the glitz and glamour have come to an end, here are five red-carpet moments that are still worth talking about. (We’ll leave out the part when I tripped over Chris Hemsworth. Ahem.)
BAND OF BROTHERS
When The Hunger Games
’ Liam Hemsworth arrived to support big brother Chris on the red carpet, their smoldering Aussie stares sent fans into a fit of the vapors. And while Liam skipped the press line entirely – leaving the requisite handshaking to the golden-haired son of Odin – his appearance was an amusing reminder of what could have been, considering he was once up for the role of Thor.
Classical dance, a beautiful singing voice, Christopher Walken and Sean Connery impressions so spot-on it’s slightly unnerving and fascinating at the same time – it’s all just part of what Tom Hiddleston keeps tucked away in his impressive repertoire of random skills. He’s also a bit of a ginger, and British, which obviously means he wins at all the things. (Team Loki forever).
A MARVEL-OUS MOMENT
Though Loki killed Agent Coulson in The Avengers, Tom Hiddleston and Clark Gregg were all smiles on the red carpet. Because Tahiti. (If you watch ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which you should, you know exactly what that means). The TV series is based on the Marvel Comics organization S.H.I.E.L.D. and is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sharing continuity with the films in that franchise. An episode called “The Well” will finally get to extend its storyline into Thor: The Dark World territory when it airs on November 19. Let’s just say things are about to get hammered.
FANDRAL VS. FLYNN
Charming and effusive, Zachary Levi is a scene stealer as Fandral, a dashing Asgardian ladies' man who likes a good drink and a good time. Previously played by Once Upon a Time’s Josh Dallas, Levi hoped to do the role justice for his real-life friend. Levi, who also lent his voice (both speaking and singing) to Tangled’s Flynn Rider, can’t really do “the smolder” (I asked and he tried), but he can sword fight. Alarmingly well.
Wearing an Azzaro Couture gown, Jaimie Alexander dropped jaws up and down the red carpet. And she could probably break them, too. (Fans have been known to ask her to arm wrestle.) The self-proclaimed tomboy stole the spotlight for sure, but it’s the positive body-image message she encourages among young girls that truly makes her memorable. It’s rumored that a turn as Wonder Woman is in her future. Stay tuned.
This latest chapter of Asgardian awesome open in theaters nationwide on November 8 – this Friday! Obviously you’re going to go see Thor: The Dark World in theaters, but we want to know what you’re looking forward to most. The Dark Elves? The Thoriffic action? The TWO secret endings? (Make sure to stick around after the credits roll.)
