Great Acting, Great Cinematography, Great Gatsby
by
Saw the premiere last night. I was impressed with the acting. While unrealistic, you could tell that it was supposed to be theatrical and dramatic. The cinematography was awesome, super artistic and beautiful. It was over the top, but fitting, as in the story, we are seeing everything from Nick Carraway's perspective. The book is dramatic as well.
There are two things that disappointed me. The first, and most disappointing, was the amount of sexual conduct displayed. In the book, it is more implied, but this rendition made it much more obvious. Of course, sex was a big thing in the 20s, but I didn't see it necessary to show it off so much in the movie. It didn't add to the already complete plot. Secondly, I do wish they developed Nick's relationship with Jordan a little more, as in the book. However, I agree that this wasn't completely necessary, and would have made a long movie much longer, so I can see why the makers did that.
Overall, I loved it!
