    The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

We viewed this movie in 3D and glad that we did. This was an amazing movie! Being LOR fans that we are, we appreciated watching the back story of the Dwarfs. Seeing original characters in this movie was a wonderful tie in. We will go see it again on the big screen a few more times. There was a lot to take in (as expected) and we loved every bit of it.

    True to the Soul

    by

This movie was fantastic! It stayed true to the whimsical yet sometimes serious nature that is portrayed in Tolkien's writing. This take on a younger and less troubled Middle Earth pays respect to the events that are yet to happen in LOTR but also focuses on the nature of the book which was meant to be a children's book. The biggest downfall for me would be the use of CGI when it could have been avoided for realistic looking prosthetics on stunt actors instead of completely computer generated monsters. Definitely more family friendly then LOTR, but then again the story is aimed at a younger audience. Peter Jackson once again brings us back to Middle Earth for a marvelous tale that begins all things.

    Excellent

Gets off track from the book, but that is understandable because of what is being accomplished. There are several changes from the actual book as well, such as at the end wehn the dwarves and Bilbo are fighting the orcs. Also, the term ORC is never used in The Hobbit, only "goblin" is used. Mostly points that if you have not read the books you would never know. But overall a great movie that I thoriughly enjoyed.

    It rocked

I went in skeptical that this book was going to be spread out into three movies. But, once I got over the fact that this movie/trilogy is meant to stand on its own, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

    The Hobbit

    by femgees

The movie was good but too much fighting with very little plot. It was like hours of going around in circles going nowhere. I even started to fall asleep at one point and was hoping the movie would soon be over. I hope the next one is more entertaining.

Real 3D Makes the Difference in the Experience!

Loved watching this movie. The graphics were awesome in the Real3D! That will be a required format for any sequels that we may be given an opportunity to go see! If they make any... we will be there! It was such a wonderful pleasure to see Ian McKellen (Gandolf) again, as always!

    The Hobbit

    by HOM

If you liked The Lord of the Rings series, then you will like this movie. Instead of Froto's adventure, it is Bilbo Baggins turn. All of this takes place before Froto was even in the picture. A must see in 3D. The animals and the characters just come to life in 3D. I give this movie two thumbs up.

    Nearly perfect.

    by

The Hobbit is absolutely fantastic. Everything I have wanted since I first learned about Peter Jackson adapting the Lord of the Rings to film. I often found myself smiling in the theater and filled with the same wonder as I was those many years ago; when I first read The Hobbit.

O too long expected Unexpected Journey

    by

Beautiful Middle Earth, I would have loved you as well in as many Ds... terrific performances by favorites Gandalf, Gollum (Oscar worthy) and wonderful to see Frodo. The dwarves are valiant, the monsters thundering, the special effects awesome. If I left a character out, it's on purpose.

    Beautiful, charming, and whimsical!

    by julie97

I'll admit up front that I love all things Tolkien, but I feel that the first installment of the Hobbit is amazing! Yes, it is a long movie, but I feel that the pacing of the film allows the story to unfold in a magical and delightful way.

All of the performances are top-notch, with Martin Freeman's portayal of Bilbo especially stellar. The visual quality of the film is truly breathtaking. Peter Jackson and his team really outdid themselves with the look and feel of Middle Earth; there is much that feels familiar and much that is new and exciting.

I also appreciate the sense of whimsy in the film that connects nicely with the more fantastical nature of the book.

I can't wait to see the movie again!

The Hobbit: And Unpected Journey - 3D

Good movie, lots of action and fairly true to the original story. Young children may have some issues with the violence but certainly an action packed movie.

    Hurry up 2013!!!!!

    by

I was a little worried about this movie. Taking in the fact that PJ was taking one book, plus Quest for Erebor story, and giving Radagast an real part in the story. I have to say he has done wonderful so far. I was amazed. My wife and I could not pick our jaws up when we saw Erebor. PJ's vision of it was stunning. Some people have been complaining about how slow the move was in a few places. Sometimes life is just that way, and their is more that come from some of those points later on in the story.

If you haven't seen it yet, let me encourage you to. If you are able either read or listen to the Hobbit book and the Quest for Erebor. Erebor can be found in Unfinished Tales and some of the Lord of The Rings books as appendix A I believe it was called.

Praying for December of 2013 to hurry up.

    Terrific journey to Middle Earth

Be prepared for a wonderful escape filled with epic moments, beloved characters and a Gollum appearance that steals the show. More than a few nods to that which has been and to that which will come for the insiders, and a thrilling romp for those new to the game. Loved it!

    Sweet movie

I've got no complaints (except it could've use a tad more cow bell). Entertaining every step of the way. Can't wait for the sequel.

Only thing I need to add, is that theaters in NJ have for some reason started calling 3-D movies as "D3" - i bought the tickets not realizing what it meant. I don't' know why they make up random stuff like that (it was AMC), but if you don't like 3D, be warry of random misnomenclature.
