    Eh

As much as I love John Cusack, I probably could have waited for this one to come on our BluRay.

    Likeable movie

John Cusack plays the dark and "down on his luck" Edgar Allen Poe - managing to slip some of the poetry into the film without it becoming an arthouse flick. He's likeable, and the audience begins to root for him as the plot unfolds. The flick is gruesome, interesting, but implausible, yet it manages to captivate the audience and provide sound escapist entertainment. It won't make very many best movie lists - but it will entertain. Go!

    Good Stuff!

    by

I enjoyed the movie a lot! It had some good twists and turns and had a dark feel to it, which added to the effect. If you want perfect history, then you may not like the movie, but if you like how movies can utilize a poet's poetry and put it into action, then you will like this movie.

    NOT BAD

It was entertaining but not good enough to pay $10.50. John Cusack probably was not the director's first choice.

    Nice Ode to Poe

A bit of a confusing start...but stick with it, the pace and story picks up fast. Cusack does a wonderful job making Edgar Allen Poe both larger than life as well as human. Thrilling murder mystery set in the backdrop of a time when people actually took the time to write, read and contemplate life through poetry. Excellent acting all round and a great poetic feel to the story. Nice Ode to Edgar Allan Poe.

    Great Movie for Poe Fans

After the last two disasters we went to see (Hunter Games and Cabin in the Hills) this was pretty good. Good acting, good story line, and a good sampling of Poe that may get people to check him out some more.

    The Raven

    by

I enjoyed The Raven. It was a fast paced movie that included many of Poe's works. To get the full enjoyment out of the movie, I would familiarize myself with a few of Poe's works like: The Raven, Cask of the Amontillado, The Premature Burial, Murders in the Rue Morgue and Marie Roget. Even without knowledge of these writings, I still think the movie worthy of attending. I give the movie two thumbs up and if were a Hindu goddess or the spawn of married relatives, I would give it even more thumbs up!

    A good idea

    by

A good idea poorly written with marginal acting. Cusack bit off more than he could chew with this role.

    The Raven

The reviews for this film led me to feel that I might want to wait for dvd but I am very glad that I saw it in the theatre.
I am a big fan of both Poe and John Cusack and the combination was a perfect fit. The storyline was inventive and well told. The action was compelling but did not interfere with the storytelling. The only problem I had with the production was jarring contrast of the highly stylized and modern closing credits with the historical tone of the film. The credits were also very difficult to follow and read - I hate this when I am trying to identify and give credit to a good performance. Good movie, good story (helps if you know your Poe)!

    the raven

It was okay. I've seen better....I've seen worse. Cusack has done better work though. Some of the movie was a little disjointed.

    I'm Being Kind.

There's something about this movie that I like, but I know in my head that it's mediocre. The mystery was the best part of the movie and Joan Cusack did the best acting. He supposedly was not how Edgar Allan Poe was in reality, but it was believable that he was really Poe. The screenplay was terrible, and with other not-so-great actors it didn't work very well. It has it's moments though. The end credits were incredible. So, really I know I should give it a SO-SO, but I'm giving it a GO since I did enjoy it.

MiscSarcasm Just watched The Raven. I don't get why this film got such harsh reviews, it really wasn't bad at all. Surely worth a watch.
