One Man shows are hard to do
I really enjoyed the surreal quality of this movie. I've heard of persons deciding to sail around the world alone - "All Is Lost" shows you what it's like to be not only achingly alone, but also terrifyingly vulnerable to the elements. It brings home the fact that you have to be prepared for more than everything. Robert Redford's acting was entirely believable. The character made some, in my mind, odd decisions at times, but Redford carried off the whole thing really well. I loved the absence of dialogue, and the underwater and in-the-air shots that underlined how utterly alone the character must have felt.
I read the reactions of experienced sailors to this movie, and they identified a litany of things that just didn't make sense realistically, some of which they attributed to the character, and most of which they attributed to bad editing/movie planning.
All in all, though, I'd recommend the movie despite its problems.
