    A bittersweet tale

    by L80Vol

This movie is an appealing addition to the "how-awful-is-high school" genre. The performances of the main characters and the supporting cast are at points compelling, and they carry the story. The plot details are revealed slowly, which helps hold audience interests. I recommend seeing it once. I am not sure it's worth seeing multiple times, however.

    Teenagers should see this!

Fantastic movie about teenagers during the school year. It shows how difficult it can be to be different and to try to make friends. The main character has a heartbreaking story and he finds help from his new friends.
The soundtrack is great and Paul Rudd has an uncredited role as a teacher we all wish we had.
Good for all ages over 10 or so.

    OK FOR SOME VIEWERS...

    by

It's a lot of movie to fit into an hour and 40 minutes so many of the things that made it such a fascinating read had to be left out. Those who know and love the book will be delighted to see the characters come to life. Perks newbies will be left hanging on multiple points as not much of the inner-monologue makes it to the screen. Regardless, there are some fine performances put out by the three leads who saved it from being a teen giggle-fest.

Perks of Being a Wallflower is an Emotional Ride!

Let me preface this review by saying I'm a 40-something adult and the mother of teenagers. That being said, I loved this movie. It was poignant, heart-breaking, funny, and sweet. I can't remember experiencing such an emotional ride in the movie theater in a long time. These kids are dealing with adult issues and somehow finding their way through the chaos of wounded pasts and uncertain futures. I loved it and I hated that I was a wreck when I left the movie theater. Yes, I cried. And I don't like crying in public. But I adored the movie. Unfortunately, because of the deep issues these kids deal with, I'm not quite comfortable letting my teenagers see this movie alone. Noticed I said comfortable. No, I wouldn't stop them if they wanted to see it. Although, I'm not sure they'll be interested. This might be more of a movie for girls of a certain age even though the main protagonist is a boy. I'm not sure. All in all, I loved the movie. The author is masterful. Now I need to read the book!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Must say was not really sure what I was going to see when I went to this movie.
It was really terrific though. I think this movie reminds me of Pretty In Pink in a way. I thought that the actors in the movie were very good and the subject matter was approached discreetly.
I think that this would be a movie appropriate for young adults.

    Not as Great as Expected

Film was slow moving and dragged. Story was good but wasn't as much a "coming of age" as it was a story of a specific boy with problems he had to deal with.

Maybe If I were young I would have enjoyed it more, but as a Senior, it didn't rate.

This Film, a Wallflower, is Not!

Exquisitely written, cast, and acted film which, over the course of one high school year, follows the various interactions amongst a group of individually very different but closely bonded friends, the newest to the group is our introverted protagonist who we increasingly learn has been long tormented by a dark but not immediately clear event from his childhood involving his deceased aunt, the true drama of which (? . . . our little secret?) is tastefully underdone. The screenplay, editing, dialog, and especially the fine acting make it all quite real and poignant. A fine film which rises to that rarely achieved gold standard of an entertaining and well crafted story-telling which, in the end, lifts one?s spirit.

Best book to movie adaptation ever.

I read this book in high school and it completely changed my life. When I heard it was being made into a movie, I could not contain myself. This movie was everything I wanted it to be and more. It made me cry, it made me happy, it made me evaluate my life and everything I have ever been through. It is a perfect movie for all ages. I loved it so much.

    worth the time

It was engaging. Didn't want to leave to go to the bathroom. I cared about the characters. It was fun and emotional. A little unrealistic or overplayed at times, but it is fiction. Definitely worth a watch.

    A+

I have to give 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' an A+. This movie looked good but nothing I was running to see. I went to see it and it was just amazing. Definitely hilarious and definitely a tearjerker. The whole movie was very inspiring! I thought all the acting was completely natural. As an outsider at school, I wish I had these friends. The lead guy (Logan Lerman) was just great! The movie actually had a plot and there was a twist at the end that I didn't expect. I also loved how it was set in 1991 - pre technology. It reminds me of how much better the world was then without all those stupid cell phones. Now I didn't read the book so I can't comment on how it compares but the movie is great! I recommend it all the way and I'd definitely see it again.

    A breathtaking and real film

I took my daughter's to see a special screening last night because they both read the book and loved it. So my expectations going in were really unknown, but as for my daughter's they were sky high! This movie is brilliant in every way, the performances were real and some of the scenes left me breathless in the way they were delivered. Truly one of the best films of 2012 and will go unnoticed by most but this is a must see! I really think a true underdog in the Oscar race and should get nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay in my opinion. Great film.

    Incredibly Beautiful Movie

One of the best movies I've seen in a long time and one to which everyone, no matter your age, will relate. Funny, sad, tragic and uplifting all in one movie. The book was excellent, yet the movie somehow makes this classic story more rounded out and real. The direction, the cinematography and the music set all the appropriate moods. The best thing though is the acting. Ezra Miller was great, Logan Lerman was heartwrenching as Charlie, and Emma Watson should silence any doubters about whether she can act beyond Potter with a wonderful, emotive portrayal of Sam. Logan and Emma were great together. Supporting cast was good as well. A must see.

Perks of Being a Wallflower......and a Movie Maven!!

This was a perfectly cast and well acted "slice of life" film that made me laugh and cry! I liked it a lot. The story and plot lines swirl around teen-agers and high school, but is chock full of incidents an adult audience can relate to. Highly recommend it for an enjoyable night at the cinema!!

    Great Adaptation

    by izzepie

This movie was exactly what I wanted it to be from the book. All of the essential points from the book were very well incorporated. I absolutely loved this movie. Definitely a must see, but I would advise reading the book before hand.
