    Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

The film was slow moving and boring. The worst film I have seen in years. People were actually walking out of the theater.Don't waste your money.

    Great adaptation

    by iamdmr

Having read most of LeCarre's work, including this title, I found the screenplay very faithful to the book and to the spirit of the George Smiley saga.

    Smart and sophisticated whodunit

This isn't the kind of movie where you sit back and let it wash over you; you are rewarded best if you pay careful attention even to casual clues skimming by. There are, of course, red herrings and red herrings on the red herrings, but that is part of the fun, and if you have paid attention, it all comes out at the end. The acting is terrific on every single count, as perhaps it should be with an all-star cast of British actors. The movie may be too sophisticated for many who are in the Mission Impossible crowd (though I confess to loving the latest installment there), but if you are up for thinking during your movie, this one is for you.

    A subtle spy story

    by k8tzmom

I loved the relative calmness of it - very different for this type of movie. But, while this was almost polar opposite of other Gary Oldman movies, I'm not sure what all the buzz is about being Oscar-worthy. So I must give it an "OK but not great" rating.

    Stinker Crappy Awful - Whyyyyyyy

    by vickiNY

Baddddddd. Slow and disjointed story. Actors are unappealing. Gary Oldman looks like a pedophile from the 70s. Movie night was my husbands pick and even he fell asleep. If you really want to see this wait for it to be on cable for free and then you can turn it off.

    Tinker Tailor

Great spy story. Makes you think and stay with it. Not an action movie but definitely graphic violence in your face. Really immerses you in the Cold War era. Very well done.

    Boring beyond belief

I went to see this based on the recommendation of someone I trust(ed). I will no longer trust her judgement.
I walked out of this movie after about 20 minutes. Even then I was being generous. I wanted to leave after 5 minutes. The first 20 minutes consisted of boring, silent scenes, drab conversations, a and boring assassination, a dark and dreary landscape and lighting, and nothing, absolutely nothing to indicate it was going to improve. If silence and scenes of inactivity are your thing, you'll probably love this movie. Anyone else should spend their money elsewhere. Ugh.

    Great English Flick

This is a well conceived movie. Great actors and plot. Need to keep up with it though. More changes in the story line to keep you awake. Will need to see it again.

It might have been better in black and white since it has that feel to it. Otherwise I recommend it.

it was long, and not always exciting enough to keep my attention. wasn't quite sure why GARY OLDMAN was nominated for the oscar, but the acting generally was very good.

Good story, but a little slow

My husband and I found both of ourselves dosing during the movie. It was slow moving with lots of flash backs. It took awhile to know who each of the characters were and what the relationships between them were. Good acting, but nothing outstanding. One reviewer put this on his top 10 of 2011. Not on my top 10.

Wait for it to come out on DVD.

    The ending is brilliant

    by

Pretty good movie, right until the last 15 minutes or so, which are mindbogglingly good, with all the actors turning up the talent until you can barely look at the screen. Worth it for the ending alone.

    Tinker Tailor Complex Story

A British complex story with a scrambled time line that overlaps a great spy story for the early 70's. This is the type of movies with flash backs and that get easily confused with the present. I small date during a flash back scene would have done wonders for a confused viewer.

Maybe next time i will read the book before the movie Ahh???.

    High hopes; Wasted 2+ hours

We had high hopes for this movie based on the trailer and the star power. We saw 5 other movies this holiday and this was the worst. Acting was fine, and it looked and sounded big budget. The story would have been good IF they let the audiance figure it out. This film jumps around from one time frame to another without any regard for the watcher. It also uses a bunch of code words like "circus" and "control" for the British CIA or something. We went with another couple who we consider highly intelligent and hoped they could explain it to us when the film was done. They were just as bewildered as us. Save you $$ rent it for $1 and stop and start it 20 times to decipher the story.

    Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

This is not a movie for anyone under 50, when I went to the theater most attendees were 65 and up.. The film trailers spelled suspense and intrigue. The movie used flashbacks and at times was confusing. This movie was not up to my expectations and could have been a blockbuster, but fell far short. Would not recommend

    Smiley fan liked the film

But I liked the novel so much more. The film is set in the 1970s, and it has fun with the changing mores in England, but it stays very close to the novel. Generally, that's a good thing, but the characters in the novel have their roots in WWII. If you want younger characters in the 1970s, you can't put them through the same paces as the ones in the novel.
