A fine adaption of a Sci-Fi classic!
First the confession: I have been waiting to see someone make this movie since 1985 when I first read Ender's Game, The book is what science fiction is meant to be, exciting, thought provoking and intelligent. And it has appeal across a broad spectrum. I took my 11 year old son and he loved it.
Thankfully, the movie lives up to the novel. The script is smart and the casting couldn't have been better. But best of all, they relied on the story and the characters, not the FX to carry this movie. Sure, the visuals are spectacular but the show is much more than a platform to watch CDI explosions. In other words, the visuals compliment the story, not the other way around.
Sure, some of the side plots were left out, such as the Demosthenes/Locke dialogue and Bean could have played a bigger role, but all in all I think the movie is a faithful adaptation to a fine novel. If you haven't read Ender's Game yet, go read it. If you haven't seen the movie yet, same advice.
Go see it!
