    Disappointing

    by

I had high expectations for this film, but ended up checking my phone for the time often after the first 30 minutes.

Don't get me wrong-- the acting was incredible! It's everything else that didn't capture me.

The CGI wasn't amazing, but I didn't have a problem with that. Rather, it was the character design. The main giant has a retarded (literally), tiny second head. It's not even there for comic relief. It's just... there. And it's gross.
One giant had hair that stood up like the bride of Frankenstein. Why would it do that?

Some of the 'jokes' were flops. I knew we were supposed to laugh, but no one did. It was awkward.

I wish I would have watched this on TV in passing instead of spending $14 (3D) to see it in theatres...

OK, talented Graphics, and Animation work, story line was weak, action ok, but not really believable in places.

    Wait for DVD or TV.

    Jack the giant slayer 3D

    by fred1

Jack, The Giant Slayer, 3D was awesome! It just proves that no matter how simple the story, if you have a great script, plot, and special effects you can pull it off. It is a simple story but they added to it brillantly. The plot was predictable but the script was great and the special effects were fantastic. It was decent for all ages and a whole family will love it. I don't want to give too much away but you need to watch it for the special effects alone!

    Lots of giants

This is an interesting play on Jack and the Beanstalk, where an entire realm of giants appears to have an affinity for the taste of humans. Think of how kids like to bit into and chew on gummies, and you get the idea. The good thing is that there isn't any blood or gore, just a Hitchcock type of cut when thinks get cut, or "bit off". It's a pretty good movie, though there are perhaps way too many giants.

The story between Jack and the Princess is a little cliché, and the term "There's behind me, isn't there?" seems a little odd when used, but it is enjoyable. The special effects are done really well, and the bean stalks are pretty intimidating, especially when they are either growing or falling. If you are looking for some good PG-13 family fun, you'll like this movie.

I really enjoyed the movie. It kept me entertained. I rarely see any great movies that had me at the edge of my seat. My 11 year old really thought it was funny she has never seen a 3D movie and she actually never got up to even go to the bathroom, she useally goes 4 or 5 times just to play in the water. I just loved it!

    Pure Fun

    by marnes1

We went because the weather was lousy and we'd seen everything else we want to. But, this was a pleasant surprise. The 3D was good, not the kind that makes you sick! The special effects are above average. The acting was in keeping with the type of movie. Light and just campy enough to make it fun. And the movie had heart.
Nicholas Hoult reminds me of a young Hugh Grant, which is a very good thing. Take the kids or go without them. You will not be disappointed. If you are, you've lost your sense of fun.

    EXCELLENT IN 3-D XD THEATER!

    by mibarks

We watched this movie in an IMAX 3-D XD theater and the CGI characters really came to life. The movie is fast-paced (if a bit predictable) and keeps the story moving along quickly. Great performance by the leading actors and actress. The CGI element of the giants could have bit more detailed. I never quite believed the giants were "real". In Monsters, Inc. it is possible to completely the reality of the monsters like Sully because of the tremendous detail in hair. The giants in this movie were good but not great. The 3-D features were awesome. I actually pulled back in my set as several objects came whizzing towards us from the screen. Very believable. Great performances by Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci.

    Good entertainment!

Good story and lots of adventure! 3D effects were above average and add to the story! I'm not sure that I would take kids under the age of 7 or 8 because (semi-spoiler-alert) there are a lot of characters that get eaten by the giants; could be unsettling for some kids.

Jack the Gian Slayer was awesome in 3-D

I couldn't wait until this one came out. Had to see it opening weekend! My husband and I loved it! It was so suspenseful and you really get drawn in to feeling for the characters. Definitely a must see in the theater! It just won't be the same on video, but I'm sure we will be buying this one! The special effects were awesome, I even found myself grabing my husbands arm, pulling on it a little and squeezing his hand a little tighter at moments.

    Toooo fun!

I loved this movie. The story line was great (action, romance, adventure) and the effects (three D and I Max) really added to the enjoyment. This is not for really little kids - I think it would be a bit scary for them. However, I think from 7 or 8 years on - it's a wonderful movie!

    AMAZING!

This movie was absolutely amazing! I went with my 10 year old daughter and she didn't want the movie to end. I have never seen her react to a movie like that and it was such a pleasure to see her enjoy it as much as she did. I could not wait to see it and when I did it so much more than I expected. Special effects were amazing and the giants were just so realistic and creepy looking...GREAT JOB GREAT MOVIE. Cant wait for it to come out on DVD because I WILL OWN IT!!!
