    Charming

This movie in Imax and any other format is a charming production of the old fairy tale. I saw it in IMax and as always, Imax is an awesome format. However, the movie would have been good in any format. Take the kids. It was a great rendition of the old tale and it may inspire clever children to ignor roadblocks and depend more on their insight and cleverness like the farm boy Jack.

Old Fashioned Once Upon A Time Tale

    by

In this age of appealing to the lowest common denominator (which admittedly this movie does with the whole "giant chef" scene), its refreshing to see an old fashioned fairytale yarn. The actors turn in fine performances (Stanley Tucci's scenery-chewing villain is repulsively delightful). It's also a family friendly romp, although some of the scenes get a little scary for younger children. The story does also toe the edge of running too long, but why carp? It's fun. Take a break from the Hollywood pop culture sludge machine and buy some magic beans.

Jack the Giant Slayer 3D is a KILLER film! It SLAYS!

I highly recommend the 3D in this film. The effects were great. Sometimes the camera pulls back and gives you a view that the giants are supposed to be seeing, this looks like a slightly reduced version of the normal characters in higher than normal resolution.

This film is okay for most ages, but some scenes may be too gross or violent for younger children, so parents should BELIEVE the PG-13 rating and keep children under 13 from seeing the film unless they're extra mature for their age!

One of the most interesting parts of the film is the story. It's not your childhood story of Jack and the Beanstalk, but it's close enough that it's recognizable, with some gender changes here and there, and a little background of Jack as a young child. Also, instead of one giant it's a whole race of nasty big guys. REALLY NASTY!

    Well done.

    A bit of a mess

Uneven FX, Uneven direction and story (is it kids movie? is it adult fantasy?) and I hate to say that about one of my favorite directors. Seems the studio stepped in and scenes were clearly edited to remove some of the more violent action (heads being bitten off by giants) to get a more accessible rating. That's a sign of trouble in that "Jack" didn't know what kind of movie it should be in the end product. The one big positive (not specifically referring to the uneven CGI here) was the actual 3d. Lots of depth to the 3d and mostly implemented very well. Not much charisma from the actors and a very, to put it mildly ..RUSHED, love story that built zero care or affection for the main characters.

    Fantastic.

Although probably intense for younger viewers, this movie is a blast for big kids. The art, acting, humor, and sense of grandeur all make for great big-screen viewing. The 3D is well-done and completes the experience. Catch this in a theater while you still can.

    Underwhelming

    by Amorah

Sad disappointment: 3D mediocre, characters too flat to care about. Waste of time and money.

I was entertained. It wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. Solid special effects. I give it a 7 out of 10.

    Pure Fun

    by marnes1

We went because the weather was lousy and we'd seen everything else we want to. But, this was a pleasant surprise. The 3D was good, not the kind that makes you sick! The special effects are above average. The acting was in keeping with the type of movie. Light and just campy enough to make it fun. And the movie had heart.
Nicholas Hoult reminds me of a young Hugh Grant, which is a very good thing. Take the kids or go without them. You will not be disappointed. If you are, you've lost your sense of fun.

    EXCELLENT IN 3-D XD THEATER!

    by mibarks

We watched this movie in an IMAX 3-D XD theater and the CGI characters really came to life. The movie is fast-paced (if a bit predictable) and keeps the story moving along quickly. Great performance by the leading actors and actress. The CGI element of the giants could have bit more detailed. I never quite believed the giants were "real". In Monsters, Inc. it is possible to completely the reality of the monsters like Sully because of the tremendous detail in hair. The giants in this movie were good but not great. The 3-D features were awesome. I actually pulled back in my set as several objects came whizzing towards us from the screen. Very believable. Great performances by Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci.

One of the best shows that I have seen this year thus far! A must see for the whole family!

    by rygiela

This is one of the best movies that I have seen this year thus far and probably the majority of last year that is both appropriate for kids and fun to watch for adults as well. It's engaging and the special effects are out of this world! A definite must see for everyone. You will not regret it!

This was a very good movie. It has a something for just about everyone. It is suspenseful, has romance, & just a really good watch. Also, there is no bad language in it which my husband & I really appreciated.

    AMAZING!

This movie was absolutely amazing! I went with my 10 year old daughter and she didn't want the movie to end. I have never seen her react to a movie like that and it was such a pleasure to see her enjoy it as much as she did. I could not wait to see it and when I did it so much more than I expected. Special effects were amazing and the giants were just so realistic and creepy looking...GREAT JOB GREAT MOVIE. Cant wait for it to come out on DVD because I WILL OWN IT!!!

I really enjoyed the movie. It kept me entertained. I rarely see any great movies that had me at the edge of my seat. My 11 year old really thought it was funny she has never seen a 3D movie and she actually never got up to even go to the bathroom, she useally goes 4 or 5 times just to play in the water. I just loved it!
