    Remember When?

    by

If you were a teen in the 80s, you probably caught this cult-classic flick on the big screen, and chances are you loved it. Reliving it nearly 30 years later on the big screen in 3D and IMAX is just, well, awesome! The story and acting aren't Oscar-worthy, but it's still a good movie with a decent storyline and great action shots. Action + drama = the perfect date night! Add in 3D glasses, and you might feel you're on a time-machine for 110 minutes.

I've seen it a million times (maybe more!). Knew what was going to happen, yet I still got chills! And the volleyball scene in IMAX 3d? Oooh yeah!!

    Awesome / Worth It.

    by

If you have seen it before it doesn't matter its a classic and well worth going to see it in 3d.Only thing that would make it better would be if it was in 4d. I just wish it was there longer then a week so I can see it more times. It was "Mach 2 with our hair on fire" . :o)

    Top Gun 3D

Top Gun is still great after all these years and all of the times I have seen it. The 3D added to it, but it was not in your face 3D, It added depth and was mostly subtle.

The only disapointment was the AMC Showplace Village Crossing 18 in Skokie. How they call it an IMAX, I don't know. The screen and image were about 50 to 55' wide and around 20' tall. The other IMAX's I have been to are huge, to the tune of 50 to 60' tall. The large screen at most multiplexes is as big as this was. Still, the movie itself, was great.

    Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely the best movie ever made period. This version with the 3D was the best version yet. I was not expecting much going into the movie, only the chance to see the movie itself on the big screen again, but I was blown away by the effects. It was a totally immersed experience. They did a great job on this one. Even if you think the movie is very 80?s, and corny, which it?s not, you will love the action, the 3D effects and the sound!

    Greatest Aviation Fiction

This is simply the greatest fictional aviation film of all time. For anyone with any interest in aviation at all, this is a must see. How can anyone pass on the chance to see such a classic on the big screen and in IMAX 3D at that. Though obviously not filmed in 3D it was still pretty impressive. I agree with other reviewers, seeing on big screen allows you see details I've never noticed before.

IMAX really makes this classic pop

    by KDM04

If you like Top Gun you should definitely see it in IMAX. It makes the flying and aircraft carrier scenes even cooler! It's a great way to see this movie!

    Enhancement PLUS ! ! !

Allegedly Tony Scott helped get this re-release done correctly before his demise, and he would be proud of the marvelous conversion to 3-d, and an all encompassing sound track, immersing the theatre goer in the world of TOP GUN.

The plot is still fairly rote, But Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis non embellished characterizations allow them to give compelling performances. Even Val Kilmer had yet to develop his quirks, and by just presenting the character (less developed in the script than the two leads) becomes quite effective, as does Tom Skerritt's as is Anthony Edwards'.

Cinematography and sound design are crisp and the lazy sun of coastal California has perhaps never been better captured and the flatness of many 80's films is absent here. The film could be a textbook on editing, directly contrasting mechanical and human realms to create the pulsing rhythm, emphasized by the sound track.

An experience to be relished on the IMAX screen, worth extra admission costs.

Sounded and looked amazing in IMAX

Being one of my favorite movies i had to see it. The 3D didn't really do much for the movie because it wasn't made for 3D when in was filmed in 1986 obviously but the sound and picture quality were great! Nothing like seeing a movie like this on the big screen!

    Not really IMAX

    by CW2cJ

What was I thinking. If it wasn't filmed with an IMAX camera then it won't be the full size IMAX. If it wasn't filmed in 3D then it won't be the 'out in the audience' 3D. There were scenes with the jets that did not turn out all that well and they were not clear and looked as if they were hanging from a string to be filmed. The 3D did add some depth but that was all. Top Gun is still a great movie but the added cost for the movie was all hype. They should have just brought it back even with the 3D but not call it IMAX. I will admit that I did not watch this at a true IMAX but at a conventional theater converted to a mini IMAX. The picture did not fill even this small screen (the aspect ratio was not correct). There was a space at the top and bottom of the screen just like showing a true theater aspect ration on your widescreen TV.

    He was THAAAT young?

A little dated, but the nice "classic 80's" flavor of this movie is enhanced by the generally excellent 3-D conversion. Great 3-D makes everything look more real, and very few of us will ever be flying at six miles up and Mach 2, or dogfighting a MIG, so "looks real" is a big treat. Cruise plays the ultra-handsome snotty little kid he mostly really was 30 years ago; he carries it well, and his edginess keeps nudging the ZOOOOOOM pace of the movie forward. The rest of the actors are top-gun and help carry a thin plot into the stratosphere; when you buy the ticket, you pretty much agree to not stop and think anything over too seriously. It's worth the premium price; you'll have real fun! You should go while Top Gun is on the Really Big Screen, so you can fly along with the theater-quality and very convincing 3-D that makes this re-release so special.

    Still Awesome

    by

3D was unnecessary and didn't add much, but movie is still amazing, a couple of slightly extended scene were added, but it is what you remember.
