Dead Man Down Will Not Let You Down

After seeing a short trailer, I thought, how far could they take this story. I was admittedly drawn to it because Noomi Rapace was in there, and gave it a shot. And I am sure glad I did. There is so much more to this story than what was presented in the preview I saw. Great story, emotion, and plenty of action. Gals may swoon over Colin Farrell, but I never cared for him. After seeing this movie though, you can see he is an excellent actor worthy of praise. Noomi also brings another character to life with such realism you will not know that you are in a movie theatre. 10 out of 10.

    Do not waste your money

Probably the worst movie I've seen in a long time.....terrible dialogue and plot. Collin Farrell is horribly bad....he has long awkward stares throughout the movie, and makes me not want to see one of his movies ever again. Save your money, do not go see this movie in the theater.

Great movie with a great plot and story line. Colin Farrell just gets better with time. Very rarely do I watch a movie that doesn't get boring in the middle, this one kept me from falling asleep. Colin Farrell rockz!

Glad I didn't read the reviews

I went to see this because I became a Noomi Rapace fan from The Girl movies. I am so glad I had not read anything else about it. Two "damaged" and angry people begin a relationship based on blackmail and revenge against those who hurt them. The Noomi character is similar to Lisbeth Salander- hurt, angry and tough. Her performance alone is worth putting up with the exaggerated violence. Colin Farrell is a bit wooden. You have no idea what's going on inside his head for most of the movie. On the whole definitely worth seeing.

Slightly More Than a Pretty Face, but not by much

Decent date movie. Ladies will love Colin Ferrel and men will be charmed with Noomi Rapace, who's pretty damn hot despite the scars. It's a complex plot, but not quite so solid. It might've been better served by keeping somescenes that were likely cut. The story felt too forced or a stretch in any normal viewers' imagination. Some great tension in the movie and suspense as it became a fairly nice "reveal." But, some of that momentum was lost and snagged as one is caught thinking more than feeling their way through the movie. It was carried by big names, good looks, sensual energy, and solid action. However, some of these gaps in writing, force fit some ideas that simply eroded the credibility of the story line. It's unfortunate because most were small points of detail that didn't really add much. Instead they detratcted, and apparently squandered some of the real acting talent and opportunities available with such big name stars. Happy I saw it. Would not see it again though.

    Grudging Thumbs Up

    by mltyplx

I would have enjoyed this movie a lot more if Dominic Cooper and Colin Farrell had switched roles. Ever since seeing THE DEVIL'S DOUBLE I've been a huge fan of Coopers and am glad to see he's starting to get parts in movies that show up at my Cineplex. I was also very surprised and pleased to see Armand Assante had a small part in this film.

However, the one thing I hated about this film was the difficulty in understanding the dialogue! Perhaps the Marlon Brando mumbling style of acting has returned, but whatever the reason, it's especially hard to follow what's going on in a movie like this one.

But, all in all, I'd still give it a marginal thumbs up.

    Decent but forgettable movie

    by

This is one of the better movies so far this year of the similar genre. I've seen Gangster Squad, Bullet in the Head, and Broken City and they are very bad movies. Dead Man Down was semi-decent. The performances were somewhat forgettable. The movie wasn't as tense as it should have been. But the minor counterplot was a welcome. At least I don't feel like I was wasting my time going to the theater.

    Dead Man Down

The message of revenge of Victor crept on you; I did not realize it at first. The second message of the scarred woman of revenge was blatant,

The two main characters, Victor, and the other woman were convincing and real. Overall, I really liked it and would recommend it to friends.

The director really knew his subject: revenge and wove it in sublety. This is definitely for adults.

I don't know if I am in the demographics the film targeted but I loved the shoot the up end.

    BORING

The trailer for this movie was more entertaining than the actual movie. It moved very slowly & it wasn't as much action as I anticipated there being from viewing the previews. I expected more from a movie with Colin Farrell. When there was action to be seen, they were very good though. I'd probably buy it as a bootleg, wouldn't pay full price for it on DVD. Actually, I really wish I hadn't paid full price to see it at the show. Very disappointed.

    Dead man (thumbs) down

    Love the actors.

Colin Farrell needs to be in more things so this would not be such a disappointment.

    Slooooooow moving, until the end.

    Wait for video.

    Alright...

From the previews it looked pretty interesting but actually watching it turned out to be a different outcome. I wasn't totally disappointed but wasn't thrilled out my socks either...

Twists Like A True Murder Show But Longer And More Enjoyable!

    by

Great movie! I would go see this again and again! This movie was better than I expected. There were lots of twists that kept you on your toes. But unlike most thrillers, this one didn't even tell you the plot until it happened; then more twists happened. If you like thrillers who spoil you and leave you brainless and give you the plot on a platter, then this is not the movie for you! See this movie for the action and plot of figuring it out and you will enjoy this movie; because there is plenty of action.

It's Great!! All the way up then the end.. and then.. WOW!!

    by

Awesome beginning, great story line, great acting, interesting characters, enough action to keep you interested but not over do it, enough drama to keep you emotionally tied and able to relate, its builds to the climax very well.. and then.. they throw the audience off a cliff to a horrible disastrous end. WOW.. were they like running out of time an just came up with the ending while on the toilet reading the Guardian's top worst film endings ever?? Its a worth while movie though and I thoroughly enjoyed it.. all the way til.. well you already know.

    an interesting story and performances.

Simply put, "Dead Man Down" is a good movie. The lead actors are interesting. The ending started strong, but ended a little weak. Still, a better movie than the last Die Hard!

Went with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised

    by laruski

This was a really good movie. Well written, shot, directed and acted. I know these seem like dry terms to describe a movie but on the surface one might say that elements of the story are somewhat cliche but they are handled well so the feeling that it's cliche is avoided. Certain lines, said by any other actors, wouldn't play but with this cast, they are compelling. The story always kept me guessing and even when I'd already figured things out, I was still entertained way beyond my expectations. Not a wrong move in it. I really really recommend this movie. It wasn't well attended which is a shame. I don't know if it was competing with some strong opening nights for other movies but it deserves not to be overlooked.
