    MAMA

    by

There's not a whole lot to say about this movie, although there could have been. The story is very good. I mean, VERY good. Something you typically don't get from many horror flicks. When the movie ended I was actually upset that I didn't get to know more about this family, the girls, what was going to happen, and all sorts of other things concerning the relationships the movie revolves around. I almost want this to be revisited and made longer to cover some of these things. If it is revisited, I ask that they spend a bit more money on Mama herself. While her appearances were brief, or well-timed, and often still startling or scary, when you did get to look at her for prolonged periods of time she became increasingly less scary and just more weird. However, Jessica Chastain is still phenomenal even in lesser films than what she's been doing lately, and the little girls really did a wonderful job as well.

    Guillermo del Toro

I was force to see this by my friend. I chose Identity Theft last week and he chose Mama this week.

I was dreading seeing this...until I saw "Guillermo del Toro" as executive producer in the opening credits.

Guillermo del Toro name has gravitas with movies such as Pan's Labyrinth, the Hellboy movies, and Blade 2.

I was right as this was actually a very enjoyable horror movie. It scared and creeped me out more than any horror movie since I saw Halloween as a child in the 90s. It wouldn't really be scary if you saw it a second time, but the ending is what convinced me this was a good movie. It was typical with what I expect from a movie that is heavily influenced by del Toro's involvement. Anyone who has seen Pan's Labyrinth will understand.

I heavily recommend this movie, especially while it is still in theaters.

    Unintentionally hilarious.

    by

Saw this last night and for the most part I thought it was okay. It has lots of jump scares and atmospheric special effects, but that's not enough to make a scary movie good for me. I think most of the funny business came from the character of Lily and her feral delights.

As other reviewers have said the actions of the characters didn't always make sense. It was like they went and brought back in all the things you shouldn't do in a scary movie that will get you killed or hurt and put that in Mama.

I liken it to The Ring and The Grudge with little kids and no other major surprises. It was most similar to The Ring. They tried to change the plot with a different ending, but I don't know, it just fell flat for me overall. See it if you like Del Toro's films and being scared silly...and I do mean silly.

Very Scary - Jump in your seat!

    by Memfan

.Loved the plot, and the scary factor. Very good movie. There were a few things i didn't like at the end, they showed too much of the mama character - it kinda made the whole suspense of who she was fall out. Maybe we have all become so jaded with technology now where we see great animation and yawn. Not sure if they set up the end for a sequel. This movie was well made, had a great plot. Not sure i would go to the theater to see it, definitely see it on the net when available

Why do I waste my time with PG-13?

    by

True horror fans be warned. This movie sucks! This is another Hollywood attempt to cash in on the teen scream. I was so glad when it was over. Much like Cabin in the Woods and The Possession, this movie preys on the corny emotions that Lifetime movies are made of.

    Creepy!

I loved this movie! My daughter and I love scary movies and to be scared and this one did it! She screamed several times (which is not like her) and I jumped several times (which is not like me). Of course there were things that I would have done differently, but that's why I'm not a producer! Must go if you love scary flicks.

    Mama

My Son and I went and saw this together and we really liked it! At one point I realized I was sitting forward in my seat, when I jumped back hard against the back of my seat. We didn't see that ending coming! Good stuff

well directed but with stupid ending

There are plenty of good Horror spots and transitions for funny to creepy are done well, but why the director didn't audience test the ending is a mystery to me as a different ending would have garnered an excellent review. As it is there were opportunities to wrap up earlier, or go with a clear sequel tease but he does neither and leaves the audience scratching their heads over poor choice of multiple endings.

    Old Fashioned Ghost Story

This is an old fashioned ghost story. Not much new here. Creepy in places, yes. Actually, I quite liked the ending but won't spoil it for anybody who still wants to see it.

    Good enough to watch

I can't stand movies that don't give you the history and when they do it's still in pieces. For the most part though, it's a pretty good movie. Some parts have you thinking are they stupid but in the end you feel sorry for the little girls. At least I know I did. I enjoyed it though. Yes you do have to pay attention as well.

    Scary

I loved the movie. Scares, thrills, and chills through the whole movie. Unexpected turns around each corner. Shocking ending. Good for any movie lover of horror and suspense.

Best scary movie I have seen in a while

It made you jump and scream. I cried a little and when I left the movie theater I was a little out of breath. The ending was not to my liking, but very unexpected.

    Mama

This is a horror movie that is produced by Guillermo del Toro and you can tell his influence . Two little girls are stranded in the woods for five years [they were 1 & 3 years old , so they are now 6 & 8] . Nikolaj plays their uncle , who adopts them . Jessica is his live-in girlfriend that is in a rock band . Megan plays the 8 year old girl and after their ordeal , they have to meet with a psychiatrist , Daniel . Everyone wants to know how the girls survived on their own in the woods and they say that Mama fed & protected them [since no one else was on the premises when they were found , Daniel assumes that Mama is an imaginary friend] . Little does he know . The story is good , their are scary images [this is Not for young kids {or maybe even some adults} because in the opening scenes , a man points a gun at a little girl's head , intending to kill her] and there are lots of 'jump scares' but there seems to be something missing [the ending was kind of weird] .

    Ending sucks

There was a point where the movie should have ended and would have been an alright movie to suggest seeing, but the ending they chose ruined the whole movie. I won't want to see it again when it comes out on bluray
