    Good enough to watch

I can't stand movies that don't give you the history and when they do it's still in pieces. For the most part though, it's a pretty good movie. Some parts have you thinking are they stupid but in the end you feel sorry for the little girls. At least I know I did. I enjoyed it though. Yes you do have to pay attention as well.

Why do I waste my time with PG-13?

    by

True horror fans be warned. This movie sucks! This is another Hollywood attempt to cash in on the teen scream. I was so glad when it was over. Much like Cabin in the Woods and The Possession, this movie preys on the corny emotions that Lifetime movies are made of.

    MAMA

    by

There's not a whole lot to say about this movie, although there could have been. The story is very good. I mean, VERY good. Something you typically don't get from many horror flicks. When the movie ended I was actually upset that I didn't get to know more about this family, the girls, what was going to happen, and all sorts of other things concerning the relationships the movie revolves around. I almost want this to be revisited and made longer to cover some of these things. If it is revisited, I ask that they spend a bit more money on Mama herself. While her appearances were brief, or well-timed, and often still startling or scary, when you did get to look at her for prolonged periods of time she became increasingly less scary and just more weird. However, Jessica Chastain is still phenomenal even in lesser films than what she's been doing lately, and the little girls really did a wonderful job as well.

    Great movie

    by

I thought this would be a joke of a movie but turned out to be the exact opposite. The little girls capture your heart as you trully feel sorry for them in this movie.story stayed very consistent from top to bottom.. If you ever spilt custody with someone the ending is how you feel every time you drop your kids off to them.

    Go see Mama!!

This was a good ole fashion horror movie. This movie had you jumping right from the beginning to the end. I really enjoyed it. If you like horror movies you really have to see this one! I really did not think I would be scared for this movie because there are not any movies out there that can scare me. But this movie had me jumping quite a few times and surprised even me! Not predictable, the little girls are creepy, go see for yourself!

Guillermo is the master of creepy!

    by Pa3cya

Mama is not so much scary but really creepy and sad. Not your standard horror movie but if you know Guillermo del toro's work you know to expect a well told story that will tug at your emotions.

Concept was good, not a bad movie

I expected it not to be scary because it is rated PG-13. I still have not seen a horror movie that I would say you MUST GO! see. Anywho, some parts of the movie was not needed and it seemed kind of rushed, but then that can be just me

    MaMa

Movie was good. It had scarey moments where the entire audience was chattering at the same time.. Made it funny to see others react at the same time. Ending was unpredictable but boring..

    MAMA

I took my two kids with me and we all enjoyed it. It had all my emotions going. It had it scary moments, sad moment, heart wrenching moments. The actors in it were great. Especially the children. I loved watching the youngest child. She played her part very well. The cinematography was very good also. Me and my son sat calmly...well we jumped a little. My daughter jumped and screamed a few times. But over all the movie was very good. I would love to go and see it again. I will wait till it comes out on DVD. I encourage everyone to go and see it. The movie is rated PG-13 I believe. So pay attention to the rating. Enjoy...

Its OK. Great effects but kinda boring

For me, "The Ring" was the last ghost movie Ive liked. To me they're generally the same. This one starts off really good actually and I was into it for the first Act. Emotional, the girls are creepy and great camera shots. Also Sound is topnotch, I kept looking left and right.

2nd Act gets kinda boring for me as it become cliche "find the source of the ghost and stop it". I found my self wanting to watch "13 ghosts" again and thinking that the Dr. looks like Tony Shaloub, who was in 13 ghosts. Mind Wondering, not the best thing in the theater. Seriously if the lights flicker and scary stuff happens, Id GTFO! Also who goes into the woods at night without a backpack or even a flashlight.

3rd Act without spoilers does get better. Story's rounded out alirght and they show plenty of "Mama" so I was satisfied with that, though by the end l agree with some other reviews, its kind of amusing. But ultimately its a slightly above average ghost thriller.

    Mama delivers the scary

This is one of the best scary movies I have seen in years. It is really terrifying to watch and ofeen busy and offers up legitimate heart pounding action. Jessica Chastain has been busy lately and is a great actress. She plays the role as caretaker for the two girls very well. The little girls steal the show as well as the top notch visual effects. I would strongly recommend this movie. Not for children even though PG-13.

    Not a Horror Movie!

    by wgowie

After seeing this movie, it wasn't exactly what I expected, but pretty darn close. Story line was pretty corny, cute and weird at times. The beginning leaves you clueless, unless I missed something. All in all, it's more of a suspense thriller, in my opinion. It's not a complete waste of time, but if I knew all this before-hand, I wouldn't of spent the money to go see it in theaters.

    A mother's love never dies...

    by

Mama started out very strong as a snow-cold psychological drama, then subtly shifted into an elegant mystery. The cinematography and scoring greatly contributed to the dark aura of the film. Praises granted, the final act was embarrassing: drawn out and cliched. The ending was completely implausible and raised more questions than answers. Despite the finale, the first 80% of the film was masterful; stylish, genuinely emotional and crushingly atmospheric. The main actors turned in fine performances, namely Chastain as the reluctant mother-to-be.
3.5/5. (If the last 20 minutes of the film were less ridiculous, I would gladly grant Mama a 4.5/5, seriously).
It is worth seeing? Absolutely, it's damn scary.
Will you enjoy the ending? I really doubt it.

Oh, and as a side-note, don't take young kids to see this, please. The lady in front of our group took her poor little 7 year old. Needless to say, the child walked out within the first 20 minutes!

    Mama Delivers

    by

Horror movies rely on scaring movie goers, yet some leave out the great storyline and acting. Mama delivers what a good horror needs to entertain and keep the audience hooked. Jessica Chastain (Annabel), who plays a woman not wanting children, and Nicolaj Coster-Waldau (Lucas/Jeffrey) are challenged with raising his abandoned nieces, Victoria and Lily. Mama doesn't shy away from letting you see glimpses and full shots of "Mama" flying at you. As the movie unfolds, the sins of the past are unleashed on the unfortunate souls in the present. Ultimately, building to who and what Mama is willing to kill for...
