    A complex morality tale

    by

The Promised Land could have been an environmentalist vs corporations film, but Matt Damon made one for thinkers. Damon's character is "a good man" who tries to do good. He also portrays a character who does not come to easy answers about a complex issue. I highly recommend this film.

AN EASY, RELAXING FILM ABOUT THE PLUS AND MINUS OF "FRACKING" FOR NATURAL GAS!

There are times when the comfort of predictability, a cocoon of complacency is the perfect anecdote in a season of massive doses of mayhem, morbidity, dismemberment and destruction...
?Promised Land? is the fare, pabulum, alleviating the the gloom of ?Les Miz,? ?Django Unchained?; a dose of ?fracking? (a combination of water, sand and chemicals, hydraulically drilled into the ground to release natural gas) leads to a mildly entertaining film about the explosion of modern technology and its harmful/healing effects on a small farming community, slowly suffocating from financial duress...
It is sweetly satisfying forecasting the conclusion; ?Promised Land? gifts the viewer wholesome folks, devoid of pretense; illusions rooted in reality; they want to educate their children, fix their tractors; enjoy the local pub on Friday evenings. For many, this is as good as it gets...
    TWO AND 1/2 STARS!!

People need to know what's going on

    by

This was a wonderful movie about a small town whom the big oil company thinks it can buy the rights to drill for natural gas, frack, cheap. Everyone who gives a rip about the land will enjoy this movie.

    Big Disappointment

This movie could have been written by middle schoolers.....high-school kids could have done better, for sure. There was no advocacy for EITHER side of fracking, no facts or information provided, absolutely NOTHING compelling about any of it. Worst movie I have seen in a long time...first one I wanted to walk out on before it ended.

Save your money AND your time.

    Promise Land

A movie with Matt Damon always seems to be a win win movie with him as as an actor and the story line; with this movie it is much the same. Being retired from the oil and gas profession I could see somewhat of a reality with the storyline mixed with a love Steve Butler had for the small town atmosphere as well as a connection with the girl he met. I did feel anger when the so called environmentalist did the demonstrationin the class room, as being from the oil and gas community I knew it was just wrong and almost an insult. My biggest criticism is Matt Damon is a very likeable character which I am sure he is both on and off the screen, however some of the language he uses changes the projection somewhat. I beieve if we are to set an example for our children certainly the Lord's name in vain should be eliminated from the movie as well as other disrespectful slang. Over all I thought it was a very good movie and very much enjoyed. Four thumbs up here on a scale of five.

    The Promised Land -really

Well acted....a message film. I am more than a little sympathetic to the enviorenmental position it is supporting, but I think the ending was a little improbable. consequently it may have damaged it cause more than helped it.

    Awful Movie

    by fzera

Go if you are an environmental wacko, hate big business, and love getting our energy sources from countries that hate us. You can't miss the message.
Besides, the movie was tedious and boring. It also had a very predictable ending.

    Promised Land

    by Sj aol

A well-made film with an attractive cast that makes a case against the fracking extraction of domestic natural gas. The case is made in the context of dishonest manipulation by an immensely wealthy corporation, but without discussion of the brief mention in the credits of film financing from Abu Dhabi, a major oil exporter. Until/unless the credits are altered to give full direct dislosure & discussion of the financing I recommend against the film.

    Promised Land

Went to see on Sat 1/5. The theater was sold out! This is because this was filmed in our back yard. The flick was interesting and the plot was a real 'figure it out' type flow. The ending was a pretty cool surprise. It was intersting seeing all the local places that my wife and I go to. I.e. we ate in the coffee shop that was used in the film this morning. Overall a film that is definately worth seeing (once).

    Very entertaining and educational

We enjoyed this film very much. Matt Damon does his usual good job of acting in a convincing fashion, and the other actors are very good also. The story is fairly compelling and does have a "message", but it doesn't beat you over the head. The scenery is lovely, and if you grew up on a farm it can be nostalgic. If you're a city mouse, get to know the rest of the country. Worth your money, but probably just as good on a DVD.

    Enjoyed this movie

I enjoyed this movie especially the twist towards the end. I liked that it was filmed in a small, real town and the countryside was beautiful. I thought the acting was very good, however I would have liked to have seen a different ending. Sort of anti-climactic. I felt all the foul language was completely unnecessary, especially from Matt Damon's character.

    Promised Land

Thought it to be a good movie. Good information about fracking. I could not figure why they
would cast Francis McDormand as Sue. She was very blah as this character. I thought Matt Damon lived up to his character.
    Nice afternoon. Nothing amazing though.

Nothing New Or Special....A Basic Advocacy Plot.

The talent had little to work with in terms of a screenplay here. Too bad because this film features several notables whose skills were greatly underutilized. This film is pretty much a plain, at times bland, story with a couple of fairly large plot holes. It's not really worth the price of today's evening tickets but a matinee might be a fair exchange. You might want to wait for the DVD, stream or cable. You'll probably be glad you did.

    Soulful, Timely Story

Beautiful story by Dave Eggers of a very real issue many Americans are facing right now.
Gus Van Sant again directs a wonderful cast and the cinematography is gorgeous. Matt Damon, Frances McDormand and John Krasinski provide honest, moving performances as well as Hal Holbrook and Rosemarie DeWitt in supporting roles.

    A Great Movie

    by

It had a lot of humor and Matt did good in the screen play and also helping with producing the movie but when they put that environmental guy in it it got spoiled im sorry to say he could have deleted that part out.
