    Love a Quartet

I loved this movie. It was very well directed and many of the actors/segments were downright funny. We laughed often. There's nothing not to love about Maggie Smith and I really liked seeing the journey of a former great star having to deal with old age. The sets were rich with depth and the costumes so well reflected the people who wore them. One of my favorite parts occurred while the credits were running. The side-by-side pictures were marvelous and I was blown away during to find out that most of the "old folks" were actually retired former musical stars. The only other time that the audience clapped at the end (in my experience) was "The King's Speech." I would see this picture over and intend to purchase the DVD so I can see it again later. By the way, there are some very special moments with teenagers, so don't limit your viewing experience to going with your grandmother.
    Thank you, Dustin Hoffman

    Heart warming story

I loved the movie and the music. The acting was very good. Everybody
Has a story to tell which includes sadness forgiveness and love. We are never to old to enjoy our lives and friends.

    quartet

We have great actors in America, but the 5 leads in Quartet show the depth, range and courage of older British actors. In an early scene , Maggie Smith's expression as she looked out the window of her apartment taught us everything we needed to know about aging, loneliness, loss and the fear of the future.

    A Film with Humanity

Quartet is so beautifully made, presenting a group of octagenarians with dignity and love. Each character is so well crafted, that you feel for them. And that Dustin Hoffman used real life musicians is very tasteful and admirable. It has a nice rythm to the film, but perhaps a bit slow at about 1/3 into it -- but then it kicks in again and you are just hoping it won't end.

    Body of Four "Quartet"

A beautiful movie about aging! Funny, sad, excellent cast and written beautifully. Enjoyed the movie very much, if you are 50,60 or older...take a look at what you can expect. My mama always said,"Getting old is not for sissies!". I now know what she meant. Excellent Movie and very well done. The writing is sophisticated, funny and just good movie work. Skeeterbugg

    So frickin' what?

    by DoDad

If I had to choose between seeing Quartet and having all my windows blown out by an exploding meteor, it might come down to whether the windows would be covered by insurance, because that at least would be interesting and wouldn't cost me anything.

Dustin Hoffman's joie de vivre shines through

Loved this movie. It so reflects its director's consciousness -- funny, bawdy, a bit over the top, and his love of music --he's a great pianist-- elevates it .

    Heartwarmer!

    by ktdnl

We really enjoyed this movie. The music was great and so was the acting. The humor is subtle but very funny. It's never too late to turn over a new leaf. This is not for kids, not that there is anything objectionable, young kids just won't relate to the situation.

    A GIFT FOR OPERA LOVERS!

Dustin Hoffman directs a film that vacillates between the vicissitudes, decrepitude of once- gifted musicians and their resistance or acceptance of their octogenarian state and faded fame; flirting with poignancy but never quite grasping it; the characters become comical ?caricatures? of diminished vitality, spouting maudlin repartee. Michael Cambon was particularly annoying as the grousing director...
Somerset Maugham said that ?art is an emotion, a language that all can understand?; this thread of emotion resonates profoundly throughout ?Quartet? , overcoming its flaws, gifting viewers hope, that as sunsets and sunrises become fewer, they still have the potency, power to splendidly dazzle, awe, as in one?s youth...
    THREE STARS!!!
