Highly Visual, Extremely Bloody Above Average Action Film.

A very simple premise. Lots of action, blood and some humor. Solid acting.
Stays truer than most adaptations to the source material. A trillion times better than Stallone's crap version. Extremely visual--perfect for 3D. I think it lacked great marketing. I'd have loved to have seen a trilogy out of this. It's actually a very good film.

    Awesome

    by

Highly entertaining and well stylised. This movie is actioned packed from start to finish. Although initially sceptical about Karl Urban being selected for the lead role, he turned out to be a perfect choice for Dredd.

    JUSTICE IS DONE

    by

This is a faithful adaptation of the comic, with great acting by all the cast, great camera work, music and effects. Stellar job by Urban as Dredd and the realization of the Judge Anderson character was excellent. The 3D was good, not too in your face but there subtly being awesome. The film is VERY graphic in terms of violence, and there were audible gasps from some women in the audience at times due to the brutality in some of the scenes. GO SEE THIS FILM.

No, don't go. Wait for DVD.

    by

Starting looking at my watch halfway through. That's a sure sign I'd rather be somewhere else instead of watching this movie. While the premise seemed promising, this movie never lived up to its promise. Acting was essentially nonexistent, probably as a consequence of the plot that basically had me waiting for some way to make a shoot-em-up different than every other shoot-em-up I've seen. Not for kids or thinking adults. I will grant that the special effects and cinematography were pretty well done though.

Very pleased: felt like action movies of old

    by

This movie was gorgeously filmed in 3D, had an appropriate synth soundtrack and the right amount of shocking gore. It really reminded me of good caliber action movies of the 80s and 90s. Like Drive, this movie had a very old school feel to it even though it takes place in the future. Also, great prediction on the future of surveillance/law enforcement to come. Highly recommend.

This movie is better than anyone is expecting

It was a year full of summer comic book movies. And there were some action movies out there. But unlike films like Total Recall or Resident Evil: Retribution, Dredd delivers on the action and violence. This is how a "shoot em up" movie should be.

The 3D is optional depending on how into the idea of 3D movies you have. This was by far the best use of 3D in an action movie all summer. There are NO cheesy 3D effects (aiming something "pointy" at the audience).

Karl Urban gives the character justice on screen. This movie feels more like a prequel or tester film to see if fans will like it. And if they do, then a couple sequels could happen.

    The Judge...

The cinematography was great...I certainly hope we aren't headed for such an existence. Also, I wouldn't bring any young kids to see this one.
...still not sure why Everything is in 3D!

Judge not lest ye be Dredd

This film is great for action and effects. Although not particularly plot driven, the film doesn't take itself too seriously and is neither preachy nor cheesy. If you're looking for a great message of some sort, or thought-provoking ideas, don't watch it, but otherwise it's an awesome film.

    Blood, Guts and Gore Galore

"America is in a radiated wasteland. Outside the walls a barren desert, a cursed earth. Inside the walls a cursed city stretching from Chicago to Washington DC. The only thing standing for law and order amid the chaos are the men and women of the hall of justice." The opening sequence tells much about the intriguing nature of the film known only as dredd. It's a film ram packed with explosive shot sequences amid a future laden with chaos and corruption. A rookie cop possessing psychic abilities and a seasoned veteren are forced in a duel to the death with the ultimate evil MAMA, a criminal mastermind in possession of an illegal narcotic slo mo. The two find themselves in a playhouse of horror when a megastructure is seized by the MAMA clan unleashing a wave of destruction and death. This is a must see film for die hard fans of the classic genre.

    Awesome movie!!

OMG! This movie was totally AWESOME!; and I am a very HARD person to please when it comes to movies; not one dull or boring moment. I just want to thank who ever was responsible for directing , producing, editing etc; this movie and for finally giving me a real non perdictable action movie to watch and enjoy. I can't wait for Dredd 2 to come out. Good job guys and keep it coming.

    Unapologetic Genre Movie

This is 100% awesome. You're not going to be blown away by lifetime achievement award winning acting, but really, that's not why you're considering seeing this movie anyway. You're coming to see a nigh-unstoppable, morally ambiguous murder machine tear through the drug-addled gang members in a 200 story slummy apartment mega structure. And that is what you will get. In SPADES. How it manages to do this without being cheesy you ask? I'm glad you asked. No irony. No poking fun at how violent it is. No breaking the fourth wall. This movie is smart enough to assume that you're smart enough to know why you came to see it. Also of note: Gravity has the fourth biggest kill count in this movie, and that IS AWESOME. If you even have an inkling that you want to see Dredd, DO IT. Impossible to be disappointed.

    A better Dredd.

I may not have read much of the Judge Dredd comics, but I know that movie from the 90's was a travesty, and that this one, may actually have gotten it right. In comparison to the other comic book/sci-fi films released this year, Dredd is simple and straightforward. Two Judges respond to a call regarding a triple homicide, and violence ensues. Now, usually films like this fall into the trappings of certain cliches, especially when they're action films that make use of 3D and Slow-motion. Fortunately for us, the tropes are usually turned on their head, and the slow motion and 3-D effects are used appropriately (you'll understand what I mean when you see the film).

Now, I did enjoy the film, but I have 2 complaints: 1)The 3D in certain shots bothered my eyes. Mostly because some item in the foreground wasn't allowing my eyes to focus correctly. 2) The film left me wanting more. Sparse is good, but maybe this was a bit too simple. Maybe a sequel will rectify that.

People need to see this movie.

    by

It's sad that this movie is bombing because it's currently the theater's best kept secret. Best use of 3D I've ever seen in a movie, beautifully shot and art directed. And just damn fun. I can see how it might freak people out because it's a sci-fi adaptation of a little-known comic that's already been made into a camptastic stallone movie. This Dredd is character-driven, well paced and well acted. The most fun I've had in the theater since Avengers. Go.

    Dredd 3D

I enjoyed Dredd 3D. The 3D effects were good. There was more blood and gore than I expected but it was good. I was glad the storyline was different from the S.Stallone's Judge Dredd in 1995. Karl Urban was good. I think his brooding and anger was more evident than Stallone's character. So if you've seen the 1995 version of Judge Dredd and think Dredd 3D will be similar, you're wrong. Dredd 3D is more darker, serious, and doesn't have the comic scenes of Judge Dredd provided by Rob Schneider. Go See It!!!

love_cinema Speaking of Dredd, I thought it was solid. The gritty dystopian look was great and music was badass. Also loved Headey as a villain.

BAClend And honestly I am fine with Dredd being this cult hit it has turned into. And proud I was one of the few that saw it in the theaters.

TDHorror From the looks of all those RTs, you folks dig DREDD. It reminded me of early John Carpenter a bit. #judegdredd #dredd #movies
