    Cloud Atlas

Absolutely fabulous! I want to go back over and over and I never feel that way about a movie. Once is almost always enough for me. I also plan to get the book, I was so intrigued with the story.

    Cloud Atlas is unique

    by optmist

Strange movie, great acting, the make-up artists did a great job. It took a long time to figure out the movie and the spanning of the time sequences. It's still a very well made movie and worth seeing.

    Be patient!

    by

Cloud Altlas starts out with many different stories and it may seem disjointed but stick with it. It yields brilliants at the end. All the acting was just superb and the special effects, make up, costumes, and anything technical were all perfect. I just don't recommend it for young children or those with ADD.

    Great movie but no climax

    by

I expected this movie to be a little like Slumdog Millionaire where the audience would be introduced to different sequences but it would all come together at some point.
However, even though there was strong emotion and amazing action throughout the movie there was not a climax and the stories never connected at the end like I expected.
It was a really long movie (at least 3 hours long) with great stories. The best way I can describe it is that its is like 6 movies in one.
I would say go see it but do not expect it to evolve like movies normally do (climax, plot, and a common conclusion).

Tom Hanks is Great But . . .

The concept, make-up and effects are great, as is Tom Hanks. The story is a bit jumpy as it moves through the myriad time periods. I realize it is by design. I enjoyed the film and didn't feel like I wasted my money, but I was not captivated for the three hours of the movie.

Pretentious and tries far too hard

    by

Some nice cinematography and decent performances but story wise- leave it. Far better ways to spend the very long run time. Boring in long sections and poor continuity, which was part of the intention but executed poorly.

    El stink-o

    by jazmen9

I thought it was going to be a great movie based on the fact that the cast of actors has made me happy in the past. Not so in this movie. The acting was good, but the plot was a muttled mess. Maybe it would have made more sense if I had read the book first. Spent the entire movie trying to figure out what was going on and waiting for it all to come together in a grand finale of understanding, but unfortunately that did not happen. Lots os people left during the movie and the ending was met with "Boy, was that weird" comments. Save your money or see something else.

    The reviews are just wrong

    by

After opening weakly, I thought for sure after a week that the theatre would be half empty. It was sold out. The film had a packed audience completely engaged for 3 and a half hours including endless trailers. Peoe were audibly crying and cheering. It has been a whole since I've experienced that at a movie theatre. I could not begin to describe the film, there are 6 different yet interconnected stories representing a time span of thousands of years. I was invested in every character and emotionally connected to the narrative. I left the theatre thinking about the film and its meaning and it has stayed with me since. I can not recommend this beautiful, expansive, challenging, heartbreaking film enough.

    Brilliant courageous film....MUST SEE!

    by

Just saw Cloud Atlas. BRILLIANT film....beautifully executed, complex story...but don't get too caught up trying to keep track of everything while watching the film....the common thread in all the parts is the part that matters most....and is what also makes this film very daring and very poignant.

That no matter how much time passes....be it years, decades....or millennia, there is one truth that transcends everything....omnia vincit amor. This movie is a love story, a political statement, an action film, a moral tale of virtue and COURAGE....and one of the best film interpretations of the concept of non-linear, trans-dimensional time and Karma that I have ever seen. Now I have to read the book!!

    I loved it!

I saw this movie yesterday and was mesmerized by it. I believe in the premise that everything is connected and that we live many lives on this Earth so I found it fascinating! It was visually stunning. At 2hr. 45 min. and 3 directors it was an epic. I plan on seeing it again at an IMAX theater because I am sure there are a couple things I didn't quite pick up on and want to examine closer. It was intriguing. I know many reviewers have also mentioned wanting to see it a 2nd time - which is good, it'll make up for the fundamentalist religious types that refuse to open their minds.

    Pack a lunch

    by vertlaw

Interesting but ultimately the film becomes tedious. The different directorial styles are jarring, like two films spliced together. That part didn't work for me. Personally, I would have left one of the substories out (the Asian one). This movie was just too long even though it was engrossing in most of its stories. (I did peek at my watch after 2 1/2 hours.)

It was fun to try to pick out the multiple roles played by the big name stars and I will admit I missed one of them completely - but I wouldn't go back to see it again to review my omissions! Halle Berry is beautiful no matter what character she assumes. Tom Hanks' best role is his shortest one, and viewers will love that bit. I can't really recommend this film, but I wouldn't trash it either.

Cloud Atlas is an acting tour de force force from a stellar cast

Cloud Atlas has a thought-provoking premise and plot line and is well-paced through several interlinked stories across several hundred years from the past to the future. Sounds complicated but it's not. But beyond the great storyline, the best reason to see the movie are the wonderful performances by the great cast. Each actor plays six or seven very different different characters across the interlinked stories. Great film!

    Pleasant surprise.

    by PG1993

We picked this movie because was the one with an OK time for Saturday afternoon. We didn't expect much, and the first 30 minutes of the movie kind of supported our low expectations. But then...the stories unfold, the red tread get clear and .... 3 hours went by so fast! Great movie, the end will let you thinking a lot!
