Great! Very entertaining. It will keep you intrigued from start to finish. One of those must see again to get every part. Definitely well worth it!

    Don't waste your time!

    by canval

Time is too precious to waste it on this movie flop. My husband and I wanted to walk out several times but kept hoping it was going to get better. Many images are disturbing and it just never flowed to tie all the story lines together. I wouldn't even recommend it as a rental. Don't waste your time.

    Weaving an Intricate Yarn

    by PJM74

The word epic was probably invented for stories like this -- multiple storylines through various eras that examine society throughout time. Though I thought that the individual storylines may have been a little too limited in scope, more snippets in a small timeframe than anything invigorating by themselves, I thought it was a marvelous fictional look at various stages in human history. Philosophical yet personal as well, the movie bounces between the future and past without becoming jumbled. It probably is a movie that rewards multiple viewings, especially given how the actors immerse themselves in so many different roles. A puzzle box that reveals a tender heart at its core ...

Aweswome flick! I want to see it again :)

    by Skkad

The first few minutes are a little hard to grasp as you are introduced to each sub plot. After that each sub-plot builds and gives you a nudge to the next scene you will see with the connections between each becoming more clear.

    Ignore the critics, GO!

    brilliant

How to dramatize characters lives in such a way as to show their experiences as universal without filming thousands of different characters? Show a few characters across different lives and times. Its a creative way to accomplish it - like an image multiplied through a diamond's many facets - brilliant!

The Years best Film by far!

    by timhoff

A Deeply cerebral film, challenging many of the questions of our existence, of the forces of good and evil and the thread of life and human existence. I see a lot of movies most are entertaining in many ways, this was EPIC. The actors are amazing the story is woven meticulously. Slow at first but enthrallingly captivating all the way through and visually superb! A triumph for both Halle Barre and Tom Hanks with an incredible cast of other fine actors.

May not be for everyone however, the film really makes you think and although the central message is positive, the overall idea is a bit depressing.

    storytelling around the universe

I will buy this movie and watch it again!

not for kids, but for students and beyond.

    operatic
    fresh storytelling method
    hilarious and terrifying

...musically I would have liked to hear more electronic music incorporated, especially in the scenes from the future

    Cloud Atlas

This movie was a bust for my husband and myself. It was too confusing to follow all the stories and then became contrived trying to cover too many subject matters. The use of the same actors in multiple roles added to the confusion as well as the made up language in the tribal scenes. Too long, too confusing it just falls flat and doesn't have a united theme.

    Makes you think

Cloud Atlas is that kind of movie that makes you think about it. You'll probably need to see it twice in order to fully understand what it says. It is provocative and I am still trying to connect all of the dots. It's nicely acted and beautifully shot.

    Good Film

It's a story of stories. There are many underlying themes and as always with the Wachowski's (spelling) there are many blatant "resist and rebel" tones. I enjoyed the movie very much. It was difficult at times to keep track of what exactly was going on because it jumps from story to story pretty quickly. However I'm a diagnosed ADD case so this isn't necessarily an issue with the film. I'm usually very picky about my movies. Anything that doesn't make me either laugh or think is usually not going to get a good review from me. I would (and will) watch this again. Mostly to catch all of the pieces I'm sure I missed the first time, as I usually do with Wachowski movies. :)

The longest costume party ever is still pretty good

I didn?t read the book so I had zero information going into this one, save that I knew a number of actors would be playing multiple parts throughout (some to the point of total obfuscation) and that the story spanned numerous eras. I didn?t know that those many characters and eras would be smashing into my brain at a clip of every five minutes for the duration of the film, but I got used to it. That the movie was directed in part by the Wachowskis is both wise and fitting, considering the themes about identity, love and transformation. That German director Tykwer swings for the bleachers on his parts is also evident and makes sense. Despite the praise that might be pushed onto this film ? strong casting, powerful acting, the complex threading of a series of disparate stories - Is there anything about its points that you do not already believe if you are not a monster of a human being? Probably not.

    Mesmerizing

This beautifully orchestrated epic with all the complexity of time transitions and characterizations by famous actors who become virtually unrecognizable in their varied roles was truly an experience. There was comedy at unexpected times and heart-wrenching tragedy that spoke to the fragility of life. Tom Hanks has become one of our most versatile and believable film actors. His work in this movie is worthy of an Academy Award. This is not a kids film because of the violence and some very salty language. The message of the movie is what the viewer believes in his heart and mind. The underlying theme seems to shift from the mystery of a common birthmark among the characters that for me remains unexplained, to the karmic relationships that occur across time.
This film was a fascinating nearly three hours of blood, lust, love, mystery, visual beauty and haunting music. I look forward to reading the book while flashes of the films scenes replay teasingly in my mind. Bravo, to all.

The movie was too disjointed. Thought about leaving one hour in but stuck it out. Felt like I wasted 3 hrs of my day. Should have went to see something else.

    Really Great

You have to pay attention to faces in the beginning to keep up with how intricate it all connects....but as it goes on you get more and more involved....
(go online and look at the actors and all the different characters they play it will help you keep up with the storyline and enjoy it more)
Great if you like the concept of reincarnation, Karma and the universe.
