intense movie that keeps you hooked

    by taranis

I liked the film and I have to say it was nothing like any movie I have every seen but it did have some flaws. This is definitely an adult movie, very complex with many overrlapping story lines. There is a lot of back and forth switching between stories enough to make your head spin. I can see how this could be annoying to a lot of people. There are a lot of connections between the stories some you dont even realize until after the movie and you are thinking about it. Well done movie overall, good acting, action and special effects sequences.

    Cloud Atlas

The movie was too disjointed. Thought about leaving one hour in but stuck it out. Felt like I wasted 3 hrs of my day. Should have went to see something else.

    Really Great

You have to pay attention to faces in the beginning to keep up with how intricate it all connects....but as it goes on you get more and more involved....
(go online and look at the actors and all the different characters they play it will help you keep up with the storyline and enjoy it more)
Great if you like the concept of reincarnation, Karma and the universe.

    Cloud Atlas

Absolutely fabulous! I want to go back over and over and I never feel that way about a movie. Once is almost always enough for me. I also plan to get the book, I was so intrigued with the story.

    How about FOG ATLAS?

I've been going to the movies all my life. After every movie of any length, especially one that is THREE hours long, patrons ALWAYS flock to the restroom. In all my movie-going life as a man, I have never seen men talk to each other while in the restroom (unless they knew each other). Yesterday, after Cloud Atlas, all the men were talking to each other. The movie was THAT bad that no sentient life form could allow silence to prevail - even at the urinal!

If this movie wins ANY Golden Globe or OSCAR, we'll know for sure that the award voting system is corrupt.

Cloud Atlas - a disjointed dream

The movie had a few scenes scatterred throughout that were fitting of a movie I would pay to see, however the disjointed manner in which things were presented never had a cadence. It seemed that just when i began to enjoy a part they would switch to another sub-plot that did not feel connected in any way.

I was dissappointed by the movie and would not pay to see it again.

Irritating 1 to 2 minutes scenes running over 4 story lines throughout long movie

Forget trying to follow this story, the 2nd worst showing style behind the bouncy cam. Each scene lasts 2 minutes or less, some are 10sec, rotating through multiple stories. This goes on through the entire long movie. Id be happy with 5 minute scenes. This style is irritating and annoying the longer it lasts. Trying to follow this story line, not likely, they don't truly get connected in the end. One of the stories includes a lepracaun like subconscious that doesn't do anything to the story, why didn't the other stories have a subconsciuos.
The positives - the scenes and sets are super quality, was great for Imax.

    Cloud Atlas

I really liked the movie because it's bases are so true to my nature. The actors play many characters in the movie which I think is a marvelous blend of creative makeup artist and acting ability of the whole cast. In the beginning of the movie I thought the links to all the characters where in one direction only to figure out that it was opposite from what i thought. Great movie for me and anyone else who can see that we are all interlinked beings.

    Loved it!

For those who understand a little or want to know more about reincarnation, a must go! My favorite movie of the year, a wonderful message movie and very entertaining too, shows what some might think are disconnected stories of the same people but in different time periods. It's telling us about ourselves as we live over many lifetimes of experiences, hence the need to have the same actors playing different roles in different setting and time periods from hundreds of years ago to hundreds of years in the future. The future settings are especially imaginative and well done, the whole movie was beautifully crafted. I'll definitely go back to see this one again.

Cloud Atlas -- Destined to be a Classic; A Film About Interwined Destinies

    by MODDHA

Aloha, Your Hawaiian MODDHA Reviewer here:
This Film once again shows how this director team (Matrix, Speed Racer, Run Lola Run;) are willing to push the envelope, redefining what is possible or expected in modern film making.
Stay to watch the end credits as you see how the make-up, gender switches, and costumes acorss the films portrayal of its characters 1,000 year time line is impeccably accomplihsed. The original story and the movie itself are stunning visually, emotionaly, and place a perspective square on the minds of its audiance on your views of applied life ethics, moriality, and behavior.
That such a film could be made in 2012 is a testament to the director's and producers' tenancity and uncompromising dedication to the true art and form of film making. An amazung film that challenges your imagination, while at the same moment inspires its characters (and naturally the audience) to understand that we are Spirits in Flesh; Total ride of immersion & compelling story. GO!

    Must see Cloud ATlas

This movie begs you to focus on the characters as they move through time, changing their Karma. Evil begets evil and good begets blessings. There aren't any predictable plot twists and letting your senses flow with the story reveals and unwraps the treasure within. The beginning and end meet and all points in between show the continuity of existence. Above all, it is escapism at it's finest.

    Cloud Atlas

It was an okay movie - If anyone asks me if it was worth seeing, I would say it depends on your likes. I like the actors that were in the movie and that was the only reason I went to see it.

    Lofty ambitions, mostly realized

As usual, the book is better than the movie, although the movie does a nice job of stitching together 6 disparate stories around a coherent theme. Parts of it were quite moving, in particular the story about the musician Frobisher (Twyker did an amazing job with the direction in this one). What you don't get in the movie is David Mitchell's masterful and beautiful writing.

I found myself wishing that the directors had cast a younger person to play Zachry (which is how it is in the book). I understand why they did it in the movie -- we are able to more easily follow the transformation of a 'soul' from bad to good, hating to loving, by recognizing the same actor in each story. But I found Tom Hanks' acting to be distracting in the role of Zachry, I kept seeing Tom Hanks and not the character. Could be just my issue.

In general I was thrilled to see my favorite novel turned into a film -- the Somni story was beautifully done, and the actress was haunting in that role.
