    Fantastic story, acting, and effects

Great story line that was just the right balance of complexity to keep my attention but not getting lost. Acting was excellent. Effects were top notch, but it was the story that carried the movie. Best review comment from me: 3 hours went by very fast and I wanted to stay fo more!

One of the best Movies you will see this, or ANY year

Incredibly imaginative movie making with an ensemble cast that leaves you smiling over and over again. It is sure to be at the top of every Oscar list and will undoubtedly win many awards. It MUST be seen on the big screen as I simply don't think one can possibly take in all that there is to enjoy on a TV set.

    It's a multiple-see movie

I was a little confused during the first half, but then it all began to come clear. I was never bored or ready for it to be over before it was. It does require a second and probably a third viewing. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone--those who need things to be sequential and quickly wrapped up wouldn't appreciate it. And, of course, you have to be open to the idea of reincarnation.
The makeup was phenomenal and there were several characters that I was stunned when they were identified at the end. I never would have guess.

    Cloud Atlas -- worth watching

Overall the film was worth seeing. Granted you had to pay attention through out the entire film to connect the characters and piece together the message -- not a tremendous challenge.

Granted the dialogue of the future timeline was terrible corny, but the characters made it worthwhile. Watching how characters did or did not develop throughout the time lines was interesting and picking out each point of change and then reflecting on it afterward was the fun part.

The time jumps can get a bit much, but in the end they reconcile comfortably.

    not so hot

    by

3x in my life I've out b4 the end. This was almost the 4th. Ok, so Hollywood egos just HAVE to exercise their right to foist their 'talents' for higher ART on us. Not since Pacino wasted his time and money on Richard the Third in the New York Museum of Ar
t has this been a fruitless consumption of computer graphics. The literati can glow all the want about re: bring the book to the screen but to me, U have to read the tome before setting foot into theeeaahhhtah. Otherwise you can't tell the players witout a score card.
And that made up language Hanks uses?? Sounds like a cross between Miss Pitty Pat and
the litttle green guy in Star Wars. "Not, I kid you."
    Save your dough.

    Hanks is GREAT as Always

    by nas318

Tom Hanks is great as always but is just not great enough to carry this whole movie. It was just too much thinking involved. Too "all over the place"

    Cloud Atlas

One of the Worst Movies I have seen. Not worth of being a B movie.
Not for kids or anyone at any age. Do not waste your money.
Sex, gay situations, killings, scenes did not do anything for the movie.
Could not follow the story. Jumps from one century to another and back again.
Plot? What Plot. They forgot to put that in.
Movies should be for entertainment. Should have a beginning, body and an ending.
I won't give the ending away because there isn't any.
Some parts I could not understand what their saying.
Looks like they cramed a bunch of scenes together to produce a film.
Tried really hard to sit through almost 3 hours. After 2.5hrs I could not take it anymore and walked out.
I believe that if someone in not satisfied with the film they should get a full refund. If enough people could get there money back maybe directors would produce better films.

Hard to follow at first but it comes together beautifully

The message is profound and meaningful. The filming very beautiful and creative. The storytelling a bit disjointed, but a brave attempt since the German book it is based on has hundreds of pages. Very original. Totally worth it. Don't lose interest if you feel lost in the first half... it all comes together and that's the whole point!

Cinematic karma at it's finest. The balances of the universe, along with purposes of life, can be contemplated without be overwhelming. Truly simple message with a panoramic view of a classic.

    Great Effort by Wachowskis

    by

I haven't read the book yet (I stopped reading the books first to save my sanity from bad movie adaptations), but after seeing this film, it's the first on my list.

Two things: I loved the message, and I'm not examining the relationships of the people in my inner circle (and my adversaries!!). And, I thought that, although the movie jumped around a bit, I think it was supposed to mimic the book (from what I hear). I mean, with the material, how else would you have gone about it as a director??

Loved the effects and the makeup, and the score. But the message was the biggest thing I got out of it.

    Looking forward to the book!!

    Beautiful

    by

I love this movie. It's beautiful and eloquent, and the plot is a web laced with delicate intricacies. Here is my disclaimer: If you didn't like The Da Vinci Code because you couldn't understand it and The Fountain was boring because 'why does he keep going back to that tree?" you probably won't enjoy this movie that much either. It was made for those who can read between the lines and sew together the pattern before it is fully clear. If you appreciate a movie that requires your full attention and challenges you to get the message, this will be a great use of your time.

    Must-see

Roger Ebert gave Cloud Atlas a glowing review and 4 stars which is especially poignant because the film got mixed reviews and the film has been dumped on critically. But I feel like he got it - the film is really ambitious, powerful, moving, and a rare paean to not only the indelible interconnectedness of humanity and human longing, but to freedom and self-determination that captures the eternally recurring moral struggle, at times violent and not for the weak-willed, necessary to secure one's own liberty and happiness and preserve it for generations to come. There is a lot take in, and may benefit from repeat viewings, but very, very worth it. Awesome.

    Cloud Atlas

While very entertaining, and filled with sex and action, I was appalled by the blatant liberal talking points that consumed this picture. I am so tired of having hollywood push their agenda decrying Evil "big oil," advocating homosexuality, pushing the lie of global warming, justifying casual relationships; there was even a retro, Solient Green reference. Where was goodness, purity, honesty, faith, and innocense? i left the movie feeling sorry for everyone associated with making this film and the hopelessness that must exist in their lives.

    Cloud Atlas

I really liked the movie because it's bases are so true to my nature. The actors play many characters in the movie which I think is a marvelous blend of creative makeup artist and acting ability of the whole cast. In the beginning of the movie I thought the links to all the characters where in one direction only to figure out that it was opposite from what i thought. Great movie for me and anyone else who can see that we are all interlinked beings.

I was completely hooked, soaking in all the immense detail and intimate story. It is my new favorite movie of all time. I didn't know movies could get this great. It is a must see.
