Too Long and Too Much Weaving

I hate to say it but i walked out of a Tom Hanks movie, why, because it was weaving the whole time and i couldn't get a grip on what it was about, also, it wasn't what i expected from the advertisement and synopsis. one more thing, it was long ;over three hours including previews. You might want to wait for this one to come out on cable or dvd.

    Go...for the Special Effects

I am still pondering the movie Cloud Atlas. I was excited to go opening night but it didnt impress me as I expected it to. I was not able to keep up with the movement and characters and only found slight relief as the credits rolled after the movie ended.

I say dont go expecting to "get it," the make-up and other effects of the movie were profound...and if you do get it in the end, then you will be totally satisfied.

    Cloud Atlas is brilliant

Went Halloween night to see Cloud Atlas, and I thought the film was brilliant. The amazing array or portrayals by all members of the cast was superb, the script and story were far less confusing than portrayed by initial reviews, and the CGI portions were seamless and unobtrusive. There was some gruesome violence but never gratuitously so, and one or two clanky bits in the story or makeup (the comet birthmark, changing non-asians into asians or vice versa both stood out of otherwise tightly woven storytelling). But overall, the movie was involving and emotionally charged. I recommend it to anyone who wonders at the human condition. And even those who don't, it may prompt you to ponder.

    Wonderful Story, Pay Attention!

    by

The movie follows the experiences of several interconnected souls across time. It's very intense at times, and definitely requires you to pay attention to the story. It's a wonderful experience.

Aweswome flick! I want to see it again :)

    by Skkad

The first few minutes are a little hard to grasp as you are introduced to each sub plot. After that each sub-plot builds and gives you a nudge to the next scene you will see with the connections between each becoming more clear.

    Ignore the critics, GO!

    Wait for it...

My wife and I watched "Cloud Atlas" last night. We loved it.

You will likely love it too, if you are willing to take it on its own terms. At almost three hours long, you have to be wiling to let the story unfold at the pace the directors have chosen. This is essential; with six intertwining story lines, and multiple characters in each, it's a complex skein of narratives that weave the overall story.

There are some elements that are intentionally campy. Hugo Weaving as a very butch nurse is only one of them. One critic said that it was as if the story was one moment the Simpsons, and the next moment the Bible. Yes, this is accurate - that's the way life often is in reality. Slapstick and soaring all mixed together.

There's a lot to talk about when you come out of this movie. My wife and I aren't done yet.

    Visionary

    by

If you're the type of person who enjoys asking questions and trying to understand the universe, this movie just MIGHT interest you :). Takes longer than necessary to get to the point, but it's done in a cinematically beautiful way- enjoy the ride.

Muddy, confusing, beautiful to look at.

Movie was a visual treat but it couldn't make up for its meandering, confusing plot. Resolutions were unsatisfying. One story from the movie was entirely ruined by the actors speaking a dialect I can only describe as canjun Yoda.

    Stay home.

    really good

The movie, for me, depicted all the things wrong with the world today, spinning in an endless loop, hence never really getting resolved. Greed, power, ego, all prevail in a modern world just as they have years before. I hope people understand this movie and use it to further the just causes of humanity and understand that we are all equal.

    Cloud Atlas is unique

    by optmist

Strange movie, great acting, the make-up artists did a great job. It took a long time to figure out the movie and the spanning of the time sequences. It's still a very well made movie and worth seeing.

    CLOUD ATLAS

A REALLY GOOD MOVIE. MUST PAY ATTENTION BUT IT MAKES YOU THINK ABOUT THE AFFECT YOUR ACTIONS HAVE ON YOUR LIFE AND THE LIFE OF OTHERS. IT DID NOT FEEL LIKE A 3 HOUR MOVIE. TRULY AMAZING! SOMETHING FOR ALL OF US TO THINK ABOUT.

    Connection Atlas: ?Miniscule Film Spoilers?

    by

?Cloud Atlas? was a unique film that creatively weaved concepts of reincarnation into a message of how we are connected to one another. I am thankful for all of the blessings that I have in my life (including my family members and friends). However, watching this movie reminded me why I would prefer for my current lifetime to be my last lifetime on earth (if reincarnation actually exists). Yes, I know that ?Cloud Atlas? is only a great entertainment movie. It is just that some of the future scenarios that were depicted were quite different from my vision of a future Utopian society.
Tom Hanks and Halle Berry cleverly play the powerful roles of spirits who become drawn together in both 1970?s California and in some post Apocalypse world of the future. There were more actors and actresses that did a great job with the interwoven past and future life stories crafted together. ?Cloud Atlas? is a film for those who enjoy movies with spiritual themes.

    Cloud Atlas isn't for everybody

    by step69

Cloud Atlas tells six seperate seemingly unrelated stories and then tries to tie them all together at the end as one universal story of reincarnation and karma. I personally think Cloud Atlas is a mess because there is really no cohesive plot or character development to speak of. I can deal without one or the other, but not both.

Cloud Atlas jumps from timeline to timeline too quickly without letting the viewers get a feel for the characters or the storyline. After about 30 minutes in, I thought that it was really going to hard sitting through this for nearly three hours. There were some moments in this film that I thought were cringe worthy, like in the future timeline where Tom Hanks & Hallie Berry speak gibberish throughout their scenes.

So there you have it. While I think the idea of Cloud Atlas is intriguing, the actual movie is not. I definitely don't recommend Cloud Atlas.

    not good

    by

New and Different does not mean Good and Interesting. I heard Tom Hanks didn't even understand the script.
On the positive note, this terribly long movie does not need to be paused for potty or popcorn breaks because if you missed up to a half hour you would still miss nothing at all. Proof that excellent actors don't make a movie excellent, story line and plot are still necessary.

I don't need a map when I have an atlas of the clouds!

This movie made me cry and it actually describe what I think about death. Now saying that it wasn't a sad movie it was one that moved me emotionally! It is a very visual and stunning film. I highly recommend staying after for the credits because you will see how only a few actors played so many parts. There is a lot of gender bending going on in this film which I was thrilled with. This is the true art of making film. You don't necessarily need to read the book because even if you did you may not understand it. lastly, it won't matter when it ends you will sit there speechless I promise! Hang on for a fun visual ride about love, loss and death, travel!
