What you should know before seeing this film.

-There are 6 different story lines, follow them separately and the movie will be easier to watch

-These story lines connect in ways that are usually subtle but have a deeper meaning

-I believe this is a film that requires at least a second viewing, so don't try to catch everything all at once

-ENJOY the breathtaking visuals, relax and enjoy the show

    Cloud Atlas mesmerizes!

Hubby and I both LOVED this flick.

The acting, makeup and costumes of Cloud Atlas are outstanding. Fantastic script. I can't wait to go back to the theatre and see this movie again! And did I mention that the costume and makeup were fabulous?! Not for children.

This film does homage to lots of other sci-fi flicks.

    Very entertaining movie!

Cloud Atlas - can't stop thinking about it!

This was a beautiful film. I have read the book and was so happy that the movie was able to portray the magnitude of the incredible novel. Not only is it beautifully shot and acted, but the messages that jumped off the screen were profound. We as a human race just keep repeating the same mistakes over and over. Why is it so hard to understand how to get along? But maybe as Somni 451 tells her interviewer before she is led away.... "somebody just did".

I need to see it several more times.

Other than the "fact" that this is based on a novel (which I have yet to read, and now I really do want to read it) it feels more like someone had an incomplete plot for three or four films, but no beginning and no end. Then, because most popular writers tend to write in the same vein, or with similar structures, someone noticed that some of the characters were relatable to each other, from one story to the next, it was decided to make a single film, linking the story lines together. They built a wrap around, and then stitched it all together to make a loosely palatable story. This is what it "feels" like, but I need to see it several more times, seriously. Also, the first couple of times viewing it is very difficult to not play the game entitled: "Guess who is playing THIS character" which is fun, but distracting from a complex and wonderfully woven story.

Enjoyable on the big screen but the fragments are not always woven together elagantly

    by

I enjoyed Cloud Atlas but there were one or two stories too many. It was more like several short stories woven like a colorful quilt but the fabric at times seemed thin and some of the patches got left out of the bigger picture. Perhaps if I see it again and step back a bit more I'll be able to see how all the pieces fit together. But regardless this was an entertaining film and I'd recommend it.

    I loved it!

I saw this movie yesterday and was mesmerized by it. I believe in the premise that everything is connected and that we live many lives on this Earth so I found it fascinating! It was visually stunning. At 2hr. 45 min. and 3 directors it was an epic. I plan on seeing it again at an IMAX theater because I am sure there are a couple things I didn't quite pick up on and want to examine closer. It was intriguing. I know many reviewers have also mentioned wanting to see it a 2nd time - which is good, it'll make up for the fundamentalist religious types that refuse to open their minds.

Cloud Atlas -- Destined to be a Classic; A Film About Interwined Destinies

    by MODDHA

Aloha, Your Hawaiian MODDHA Reviewer here:
This Film once again shows how this director team (Matrix, Speed Racer, Run Lola Run;) are willing to push the envelope, redefining what is possible or expected in modern film making.
Stay to watch the end credits as you see how the make-up, gender switches, and costumes acorss the films portrayal of its characters 1,000 year time line is impeccably accomplihsed. The original story and the movie itself are stunning visually, emotionaly, and place a perspective square on the minds of its audiance on your views of applied life ethics, moriality, and behavior.
That such a film could be made in 2012 is a testament to the director's and producers' tenancity and uncompromising dedication to the true art and form of film making. An amazung film that challenges your imagination, while at the same moment inspires its characters (and naturally the audience) to understand that we are Spirits in Flesh; Total ride of immersion & compelling story. GO!

    Lacked flow

Although there were parts of this movie that fell into place, for the most part, it was choppy, confusing and lacked continuity. To be fair, though, I had to see The Matrix a few times before it made sense!

    Amazing movie!

If you liked the personal journey and mystic undertones behind The Matrix, you would love this movie. If you are looking for an action/hero type movie, look for another one. The Cloud Atlas is for those who want to be challenged on their vision of life and the world as is. In sum, an amazing movie! It reminded me of "What the Bleep do we know", a documentary about Quantum Physics and Life. I am ready to see Cloud Atlas again, and again (with a bit of working out in between as 3 hours sitting down is not very healthy!!) Valeria

    Wonderful Story, Pay Attention!

    by

The movie follows the experiences of several interconnected souls across time. It's very intense at times, and definitely requires you to pay attention to the story. It's a wonderful experience.

One of the best Movies you will see this, or ANY year

Incredibly imaginative movie making with an ensemble cast that leaves you smiling over and over again. It is sure to be at the top of every Oscar list and will undoubtedly win many awards. It MUST be seen on the big screen as I simply don't think one can possibly take in all that there is to enjoy on a TV set.

    thought provoking

What you'd expect from the Wachowski siblings. A big puzzle that doesn't quite make sense till the end. Was I glad I saw it? Yes, I was entertained. But I"m asking the obvious question-- was it better than "the Matrix?" Nope. But I'm glad they keep making movies.

Very interesting narratives, the film gets better as it goes on. Must go see! Visuals are awe-worthy, performances with different accents are amazing. Set design is fantastical.
