    eh

well i didnt fall asleep so thats good. the movie had its funny parts, interesting parts, emotional parts, creepy parts, cool made-up-language parts. it just took me a minute to begin to make sense off all the different characters, but atleast they wrap it up nicely, well i still have questions but for the most part i got the gist. im not a harsh critic so i say its worth checking out.

Confusion...! Stay away from this movie!

I'm sorry, but this movie is total and utter confusion! Speaking only for myself, I feel that I wasted 2 hours and 52 minutes trying to understand what the hell was going on! To be fair, the acting and music wasn't bad - but the script...and storyline...! I cannot recommend anyone to see it! Blah....

    Cloud Atlas mesmerizes!

Hubby and I both LOVED this flick.

The acting, makeup and costumes of Cloud Atlas are outstanding. Fantastic script. I can't wait to go back to the theatre and see this movie again! And did I mention that the costume and makeup were fabulous?! Not for children.

This film does homage to lots of other sci-fi flicks.

    Very entertaining movie!

    What a beautiful weave

    by

This is not a typical narrative. No. In fact, if cinema is a place you go to not use your brain then this film is not for you. This film is a challenge, to follow to comprehend strings that tie characters from one time and place to another. It can be difficult to follow you what you're expecting is a typical narrative that has a standard beginning, standard middle and a standard end. But if you allow yourself to follow an intricately woven line of independent stories that have familiar humanistic thread that runs through each, then you will enjoy very complex and poignant stories, Each one having an effect on the other by means of small acts of selfless kindness or heart wrenching moments of loss as caused by what can only be construed as true, self centeredness and evil. The cast, phenomenal. THESE PEOPLE REALLY HAD TO ACT!!!! in the classical meaning of the word. They all played multiple roles, multiple races and genders. In that regard, a grand spectacle for true lovers performanc.

    Could've Been a Greater Flick

    by

I love interweaving stories and this takes it to another level entirely. The only thing that bugged me was the interpretation of the BIG message of the film being that " we are all connected somehow, somewhere." A more thoroughly thought out screenplay would've benefited the film itself. Instead, what's left is just a mock up of the same actors, playing different roles, attempting to relay that BIG message. And in short, it makes this film a bit flat.

Boring. Oh yes, and depressing, but mainly boring. Incoherent too, but mainly boring.

    CLOUD ATLAS

This is a complex and confusing film. The first two hours are too hard to really follow as to what is going on. The last hour of this film is phenomenal, You can start to see how the first two hours ties together. It's also when the film turns to political views and social commentary. The last hour consists of CGI that is right out of TRON and many scenes will reflect scenes from previous films like ROAD WARRIOR, WATERWORLD, MUTNEY ON THE BOUNTY and ROOTS. I almost gave this film a so/so rating, there was no need for the F word and nudity that added nothing to character or situation developer. I was impressed with the makeup in this film. Many of the actors play 5, 6, and 7 rolls. Excellent acting; but the story from start to finish is hard to grasp. I think we go to the movies to be entertained and not to have to work this hard to understand the storyline. If you don't mind the first two hours that are all over the place to get to the last hour, then please go see this one.

    Great movie

It was about half-way through that I thought to myself, "I love this movie." Each story covered its own genre well and they were all cut together beautifully. Actors in multiple roles could be jarring at times (Tom Hanks with a Cockney accent?) but it mostly worked. It does require the viewer to pay attention and think about what they're experiencing which isn't for everyone. It was definitely for me, though.

What you should know before seeing this film.

-There are 6 different story lines, follow them separately and the movie will be easier to watch

-These story lines connect in ways that are usually subtle but have a deeper meaning

-I believe this is a film that requires at least a second viewing, so don't try to catch everything all at once

-ENJOY the breathtaking visuals, relax and enjoy the show

Cloud Atlas: great movie or great confusion?

I sometimes see a film for the plot, the actors, the cinematography, the directing or just for pure entertainment. It's hard to find a niche for this one. It's a huge film, so many stories, plots, subplots, actors in multiple roles (was that really Halle Berry? No, it couldn't be...wait, maybe it was?) This is a real "suspend your disbelief" film, don't even think about leaving the theater for popcorn, just go with the flow...it's too long, probably too daring and too complicated but somehow it works. I found myself thinking about the ideas, broad as they are this morning..are we all connected? does one door open into another? All in all well worth the time...although I did turn on my phone to check the time...more than once.

One of those ones you have to see twice

This film is definitely not for everyone -- especially the easily confused. I understand the critics not caring for it. For them a film must be able to be viewed once and completely understood.

I think to get the most out of this film you must either see it with a(n intelligent) friend so you can discuss it later and/or see it more than once. Additionally, an vague understanding of the laws of karma and karmic attraction are helpful -- it's sort of what the film is about.

I enjoyed the movie a lot and am hoping to get to see it again at the dollar theater or on video. It is visually stunning, mostly well-acted (Tom Hanks only becomes really distracting in one story-line)

I haven't read the book, but from what I've heard, the writers did a remarkable job considering the storyline.

    Entertaining, but long

I enjoyed the show more than I thought I would. Much of it is very entertaining. But after 2 hours I found my patience waning. I went with someone that had read the book and she enjoyed both - so maybe reading the book ahead of time is a good idea.

    Ambitious

    by Glaucus

I had no idea what I was walking into the first time I went to see Cloud Atlas in theaters. I became aware of the movie one day when I went to check what the Wachowski brothers were up to, and I saw this project, 'Cloud Atlas'.

Like I said before, I had no idea what I was getting myself into the first time I saw it. I am writing this review the day after my second viewing.

What is there to say? The scope of the film spans centuries, focusing on the lives of individuals in certain time periods that are some how connected without their knowing, where their actions effects the lives of those in the future without them even trying or knowing.

You can say that it is a story of soul mates finding each other again and again throughout time, either glimpsing each other for moments, or spending their lives together. It's an amazing, gripping film of hope, sadness, and above all, humanity. I truly love this film, and plan on purchasing it when it is released.

If you want inspiration and a dose of wake up that isn't coffee!

    by crumbo

This story and motion picture is so timely in when we as a body of humans are in high need of waking up and realizing that we are all connected and that our causes effect everyone and ourselves in a very deep way.
I highly recommend this movie as theater going experience, especially if you want some inspiration to change your life path.
