    Flight

    by

More than what I was expecting. Denzel is fantastic, as always, as this very sad, sick man. It's powerful stuff. As the child of an alcoholic it was tough to watch. Could practically feel everyone in the theatre groaning as we were inwardly begging the character to do the right thing.

    Thought Provoking....

    by

A very powerful movie! A great performance from Denzel Washington and the rest of the cast. The movie doesn't end the way you might expect which makes the movie even more powerful. I recommend it!

    Zemeckis is back

    by

When I initially heard Robert Zemeckis was finally returning to live-action after a decade of uninvolving motion capture, I knew I wanted to support that endeavor. After seeing Flight I can tell you he hasn't lost a step. The directing is brilliant and well matched by the powerfully conflicted performance from Denzel Washington. I've never rooted so hard for such a charismatic guy to go straight to jail. The plane crash at the beginning (that's not a spoiler, it's in the trailer) is terrifying and the vicious cycle of alcoholism is portrayed realistically. A few things I had problems with: John Goodman's comic relief drug dealer was hilarious but the tone of one of his scenes was jarring due to the song choice. The constant message straight from AA about us being powerless to the will of God was hard to swallow without the opposing opinion represented, for balance. If it weren't for the full frontal nudity this drama would appeal to the religious right.

    Flight

    by

This movie was not about how the lead character saved the lives of the passengers on a doomed filght by extraordinary airmanship; rather, it's about how he saves himself from crashing and burning at the hands of addiction, facing his demons, and atoning for years of destructive and toxic behavior.

Denzel Washigton's performamce is powerful and multi-faceted, as he shows both the caring responsible man, and the tormented, out-of-control alcoholic who estranges wife and son. As in life, his character comes to an impasse that will either deliver him or damn him.

Life is about the choices we make and how we deal with adversity. When we face tough times with truth and honor, we are defined as having character. When we refuse to confront our demons and our fears, we are labled as weak or lacking character. But it's easy to judge when you don't have an 800 pound gorilla on your back called alcohol combined with denial.

    entertainment at its best

    by

While the film was not what I expected, its more about the pilot's problem with drugs and alcohol, as well as personal integrity than the crash, it was 2 hours of sheer entertainment.

Real good if you like drama, depth of plot, and a long running time "bang for your buck"...

I thought for its running time of 2 hours and 20 minutes, it flowed good and kept my interest. The main action of the plane crash is in about the first third of its running time, then the plot builds from there. The last 25% of the running time builds to Denzel (Whip Whittaker) having to go before the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and with some twists in the storyline, the ending sequence is rather frank and honest on the part of Whip Whittaker (Denzel Washington). The language is somewhat harsh throughout, and some of the storyline gets a little seedy in spots. For a drama movie, it's a "go see" to me...

    Fantastic, uncomfortable, and gripping

Bottom line, this is a fantastic movie. For anyone who has experienced a loved one with an alcohol problem, this is a hard movie to watch but a must see! The story line was not what I had originally thought it would be, or at least not as intense as I thought it would be. Each character was incredible, from denzel (of course), to don cheatle, to Denzel's recovering drug addict female companion.

I left the movie theater speechless for the first time in a long long time. A must see for anyone who enjoys a serious drama played by incredible actors. Three thumbs up.

    Simply Awesome!! Must watch

    by Darilov

One of the bests airplane crash sequences ever created on film. Even taking into account the highly fictional scene with the airplane flying inverted. The plot of the movie keeps you tied up to your seat and emotionally engrossed during the entire 2:18 minutes of showtime. Denzel Washington made a brilliant performance. Oscar material I dare to say!!

Great Story, Good Performances, Not Boring

when i went to see flight, i had read none of the reviews or synopsis. based on the trailers, i decided to plunge headfirst into the unknown, generally a bad idea for me, i'm so picky about the movies i shell out bucks for. this was a great night of entertainment! the effects of the plane ride and subsequent landing were phenomenal, leaving me grabbing the arm rest. but the true glory is in the story of the rise and fall of the pilot, his co-conspirators, his character traits both good and bad, and his ability to finally grasp responsibility for his own actions. i didn't know until the end how this was going to play out, and that's just how i like my morality plays, ever since star trek. this is a great bit of entertainment, with wonderful performances not only from denzel washington, but don cheadle and bruce greenwood, too, and john goodman was hilarious during his short tenure. a great watch i highly recommend.

    Review For "Flight"

Boy - I really liked this movie. I only wish that alcoholics (both men and women) would just go see this movie, pay attention to it and see how their lives are just like this pilot's life - empty, and just "living for the ever mighty bottle". That bottle has the power to wreck your lives - it causes marriages and other relationships to break up, costs so much money to drink that people lose their houses, furniture, etc. I hope and pray that people all over this country that have major, major drinking problems., (i.e., they can't get out of bed without having a drink, they can't function or walk or talk without having a drink) - I hope they see this movie, and a big, big lightbulb goes off in their head and they "see the light" about how they are hurting themselves and others by drinking so much or by drinking at all. Denzel Washington played this part very well.
