    Flight

    by ednzory

As a recently retired airline employee, this movie hit home. The crash scene was the most frightening I have ever witnessed. It brought back horrible memories. In May, 1979, I was taken out to try to assist survivors from the crash of flight 191 at Chicago's O'Hare airport. There were none. This movie brought back all the horror passengers must have felt prior to the crash. The movie crash scene set up the perfect allegory for the rest of the film. The captain's ability to control his aircraft but unable to control his life. The only questionable scene was at the beginning of the film where he (the captain) does a walk around the aircraft. Captains do not do this, this function is left up to the first officer. Also, the relationship between the flight attendant and the captain should have been developed more to justify his decisions at the hearing held by the NTSB. Aside from those two issues, this was an outstanding movie delving into the human spirit.

I never want to drink or fly again....

I fly fairly often and I realize that you put your life into the pilots hands when you fly and this movie effectively showed this. The alcohol and drug abuse was so vivid you really took the ride with Denzel's character and it was cringe worthy in so many places. This movie was well written and acted but VERY dark.

Great movie! But then, anything with Denzil Washington is great! As usual, he does an outstanding job. This movie will be nominated with several awards including director and would not be surprised to see Washington once again be nominated for an acadamy award - and win!!

Although, at times, it was difficult to watch, we loved the movie. Denzel Washington did a superb job as an alcoholic struggling with his addiction. the story line was tense and moved rapidly. The acting was great.....John Goodman, at times, "steals the show". The subject matter was a little different than what we have been used to and I felt it was handled delicately. All the actors played their roles with great sensitivity, never over acted....yet made you feel that you were part of their issues. I felt the special effects were realistic as well..the scenes in the plane during the turbulence were felt by everyone in the audience...not a sound could be heard!
Bravo for the cast, crew and everyone involved with this film....it is worth seeing....great thriller/drama! This is an adult film, definitely not for children...subject matter can be thought to be hard core and tough to watch at times....although its content is an important and integral part of the plot.

Gripping, powerful, this is a classic

One of Denzel Washington's finest roles...my guess is he will be nominated for another Oscar.

Briliantly written, perfect acting and the effects were not overdone but just right.

    Wow...do not miss this film.

An absolute tour de force from Denzel Washington. The trailer is a bit if a fooler - this is a movie mostly about an unflinching look at one man's battle with alcohol and drug addiction...hard to watch at times but incredibly affecting. The twist at the end of the movie comes as a surprise and is very satisfying.

    More than expected!

Denzel continues to show his versatility as an actor. Quite a few story lines and subconscious messages in Flight. I'm ranking this as a GO! I'll definitely be adding this to the movie collection once available.

    Flight

Denzel gave the performance of his life. Written beautifully, amaznigly directed and with great tunes, this movie was both funny at times and heartbreakingly sad. This is a must-go for an older-13 and up.

    Excellent Denzel movie!

    by SQ44

As always, Denzel is a terrific actor. The story interestingly develops, as does his character. If you are a Denzel W. fan, you will definitely love this well-made movie.

    Flight

This movie resounded very well with me, watching my father be a working alcoholic; watching Denzel portray one was tucking at my heart strings--I also disagree with the gentleman who said having the naked woman in the beginning was (I am putting it in my own words) "a waste of time"---I thought it brought some substance to what this mans life was about, where he was and why he was there--you got that from the phone call with his ex-wife. For all of you substance abusers--please, go see this movie, let it work something in your hearts-you may say you are not this captain, but if you really look, some of you are there and some may have gone above and beyond where he is. Please get help before you put someone or yourselves at the door--deaths door.

    AMAZING

Truly one of the best movies that I have ever seen. The acting was superb, the flight scene was so real that I found myself holding my breath. Honestly it is amazing. The one caveat that I have is that the movie is truly NOTHING like the preview. It is not a comedy or an action film. It is a story about an alcoholic finally recovering and has deep, mature topics. SO GOOD.

Not What I Expected - thought provoking

    by tz75

We saw this as part of a holiday tradition where we see movies the night before Thanksgiving. We all thought that this was an action movie similar to Unstoppable, but we were clearly not informed! What we did see was a thoughtful portrayal of an addict and the consequences that result from choices. While the protagonist is by no means a hero, you still care about what happens. It doesn't have neat endings, as drama in real life wouldn't either, but it left you with a lot of questions to discuss, which is good. I don't know if the depiction of cocaine's effect is 100% accurate, it seemed almost an endorsement for this dangerous drug, but I did like this movie and think it will stimulate some great conversations. It also could be a wake up call for people who might be going down the same path, but it would be subtle, non preachy call.

Finally A Movie With Great Acting

I noticed that most of the people that gave this 1 star were disappointed that the action crash scene didn't last the whole movie. Since this is a special effect blow it up kind of media form, I guess that's to be expected especially from a younger audience.

To me, the movie began afterwards. Go to see this movie if you like great acting! This was a human story about life's real challenges with great supporting actors. By far one of Denzil's best work EVER!! Riveting, heart wrenching and real!!!!
