    So - So

Was not thrilled with this movie. It had been hyped as "Hitchcockian" - far from it in my opinion.
Sir Alfred Hitchcock would roll over in his grave to have his name/style associated with this film. There were perhaps 2 saving graces in this movie: its length - 105 minutes - thank God it was not one minute longer; and Jude Law. I could certainly have done without the scene towards the end that added nothing to the movie except nausea.... I give it 2 thumbs down.

    Side Effects

    by

This movie was nothing like I thought it would be. It held a twist I did not expect. All in all I enjoyed the movie. The actors were well suited in there rolls.

    Side Effects

Walked out during movie. Dark, slow, depressing! This movie is based around a girl taking the current anti-depression drugs and the side effects. If you want to listen to someone's problems with depression -- then this movie is for you. The anti-depression drugs, Zoloft, all the SSRI's mentioned, a lot of people take today. These drugs say "may cause suicidal thoughts, dry mouth, nausea, etc......". Do not send a child to this movie if they are taking any SSRI meds or even ADHD meds.

I do not recommend this movie.

    Eye opening and suspenseful

Rooney Mara delivers a superb and believable performance. Jude Law is casted perfectly for this role. The movie itself has a slow start with some foreshadowing of whats to come at the climax of the movie. You cannot watch this movie at the midnight showing because you will fall asleep. The pace is very slow even when the movie reaches the turning point it still unfolds slowly. with plenty of medical jargon thrown your way it's hard to keep up if uninterested in this topic. Side effects delivers a nice turning point with a twist few see coming thanks too Rooney Mara performance if you keep up it turns into a satisfying movie.

    Watching Paint Dry

    by

Do you enjoy watching paint dry? How about watching grass grow? If so, then this movie is for you. Incredibly boring and the twists towards the end couldn't make up for the drudgery. Pass.

    Smart, well-made psychological thriller

    by jwis

This is a smart, well-made film and Rooney Mara is great as the fragile wife. The first half of the movie moves a lot slower than the second half, but there's a lot to pay attention to. It's much more of a psychological thriller rather than an action thriller. It would definitely take a second viewing to catch everything that's in there.

    Bet You Can't......

guess the ending, without help from someone who's seen it!!

Tight, well-written script, wonderfully acted by a talented cast!

The important question is: Is he good guy, or not?

    Go and enjoy the suspense!

    Soderbergh should never retire!

I am telling you now that this movie will be on my top 10 movies of the year. This movie is incredible. This whole review I?m basically just going to praise this movie so yeah if you were wondering if I liked this movie you should know from the title. I have no idea how Soderbergh does it but he makes a potentially very boring movie and makes it exciting as hell and I have loved every one of his movies so far. Rooney Mara is perfect in this movie and I can?t wait to see what she does next. Jude law is also very good and believable as a psychiatrist. Catherine zeta-Jones is fine . Channing Tatum has the smallest role and he?s good for the brief screen time he has. this movie has so many twists and turns it's really gripping and will ahve you on the edge of your seat. this movie is brilliantly shot and edited. I mean there were some shots it took me a second to realize what i was looking at so it's nice to see directors be risky and actaually try something new. i give SIDE EFFECTS a 10!

    This is no Fatal Attraction!

I heard this compared to Fatal Attraction. Geez! Although it has a great cast, the script doesn't have any real edge to it other than the actual murder scene.

    Side Effects

At first, I thought this movie was way too slow. Things were happening and you thought, is this going to go anywhere? Then later on, things start progressing a little faster, almost a little too fast. And finally, there's a great twist at the end. I would tell people to go see it but I would also tell them to be prepared for the slow beginning.

    VERY good surprise!

It's always a treat to see a good movie; good acting, excellent plot, fast paced. We loved the little twists & turns in the story. Wish there were more movies like this one.

Good Movie Could Have Been Great

Side Effects had a good story, cast and script - lots of mis-direction and some very good acting. However, the cinematography left room for improvement. Get rid of the hand held camera techniques!

    Decent waste of time

    by jhs39

The early scenes where Side Effects seems to be about a young woman grappling with crippling depression are well acted and involving. However, once the movie turns into a thriller it devolves into a series of plot twists that aren't particularly surprising or interesting and the characters become ciphers that serve no purpose other than moving the plot from point A to B to C. Side Effects didn't do much for me but a couple leaving the theater were talking about how good it was, so if you're in the mood for an overqualified cast and lots of plot twists this might be for you.

    Not what I expected

Channing Tantum did not have much of a role in the movie. Definatly a twist in the story line which I was not expecting.
It is probably a good movie but like i think I was expecting something a little different from the previews.
