    weird but good :D

    by

It's a really good story and everyone in the movie is great! It's a bit weird tho so it's not a movie you should watch if you just want to have a laugh or if you're a bit tired then you wont be able to follow the story!

    Netflix or Red Box It

I saw this title in the theaters. Not because it appealed to any film inclination of my own, but it was date night and we had to watch something. Surprisingly, this film is solid. The story, direction, casting and acting, all work. There are a couple of plot twist stirred up in the gumbo to keep you on your toes. And a raunchy sex scene or two, to cater to your inner voyeur. This is a genuine matinee or Netflix title. You won't want to lay down full price for this title, but home rental or the dollar cinema? YES! You won't be disappointed. Spoiler alert Chanting Tatum dies. But I am sure you knew that right?

The commercials give nothing away !

I love to be in a theater when the entire audience gasps at once. This movie was only what I expected on a very basic level. From the commercials you can tell that someone is on medication and they may or may not have murdered someone. Yep, that much was true. What actually happened in the movie was a big surprise to me. Neither the good guy nor the bad guy were who I thought they'd be, based on what I'd seen in trailers. I definitely want to see this again. There were a couple things I've been thinking about since I saw it last night and I'd just like one more look at them.

I highly recommend this, if you're into psychological thrillers.

    Side Effects

At first, I thought this movie was way too slow. Things were happening and you thought, is this going to go anywhere? Then later on, things start progressing a little faster, almost a little too fast. And finally, there's a great twist at the end. I would tell people to go see it but I would also tell them to be prepared for the slow beginning.

I thought it was a good movie. We always rate the movies from 1 to 10. Ten being the best and one being the worst. I rate it an 8. My husband gave it a 7. And adult son gave it a 6.

They all tell me to get a hotel because its not much more expensive now days. Was sleeping in this one 30 min in to it.

    Edge-of-your-seat thriller

wonderful acting, a strong screen-play, and terrific character development are the hallmarks of this terrific film. Roony Mara is spellbinding in her role as a severely depressed housewife coping with the recent return from prison of her husband after a four year absence and the attempts to re-connect and give meaning to a life interrupted.
Jude Law is wonderful as a seriously concerned psychiatrist attempting to help the young hose wife cope with her depression and challenges. The delectable Catherine Zeta-Jones is wonderfully smarmy and sinister as a colleague of Law's in their shared profession of psychiatry and the coincidence of having had the young Mara as a patient previously.
The tension mounts to a fascinating and truly unexpected conclusion that will keep you thinking long after you have left the movie theater. This is a terrific film; don't wait, go see it!

    Watching Paint Dry

    by

Do you enjoy watching paint dry? How about watching grass grow? If so, then this movie is for you. Incredibly boring and the twists towards the end couldn't make up for the drudgery. Pass.

    Welll......

(First time "reviewer" )- I watch a lot of movies and think that my opinion might help you decide if you want to spend $12+ on a movie:

I went into the movie knowing nothing of the plot line and was pleased with the money I spent. Definitely a "unique" plot and worth seeing. Half way throught the movie I was a bit confused but fortunately, they were able to answer the questions I had and understand what was happening. Although the scenarios seemed a little "farfetched" and fell into place, it was still entertaining with a unique subject matter. The acting was good and no one seemed to stand out over the other. I'm curious to see if you agree

Good Movie Could Have Been Great

Side Effects had a good story, cast and script - lots of mis-direction and some very good acting. However, the cinematography left room for improvement. Get rid of the hand held camera techniques!

    side effects

surprisinglu successful at offering a completely unexpected ending-unexpected but legitimate
for the three main characters. excellent acting by newbie rooney mara and also by "stars" Jude Law and Catherine Zeta-Jones. It was good to see Z-J playing a real part and not even trying to show off her beauty.

    Save your time and sanity

I agree with many of the other reviews. This movie is incredibly slow and overly depressing. Seemed like a good choice based on the cast, but not the case. Really sorry I chose this movie to go to with friends. It brought the whole evening down. Suggestion, If you are considering seeing this movie, tap a nap instead!

Don't want to spoil it, but definitely worth the price of a ticket

    by hobbes3

I am truly appreciative of how critics and bloggers have, for the most part, made an effort not to spoil the twists of this movie. I don't know how to describe it actually without giving anything away. All I will say is that it starts out one thing and ends up as another and you won't glean anything by watching the trailers & tv spots. This is Soderbergh doing DePalma doing Hitchcock. Rooney Mara will knock your socks off and both Catherine Zeta Jones and Jude Law haven't had parts this juicy in a long time. Definitely worthy of your time and the price of admission.

Side Effects has a good plot but was draggy

I am not usually hard on movies, in fact I like most movies and have never given any movie I've reviewed anything less than a "Go". The problem I had with this movie is that it was draggy. Yes it had a descent plot twist and there are some parts that make you think "holy cow" but it was not as good as I thought it was going to be based on reviews from fans and critics. I kind of got the sense that the rest of the theater felt the same way. At the end of the movie when the lights came on I could see the disappointment in many faces. It wasn't one of those movies where people are smiling and you hear chatter about what a good movie, it was more of an awkward silence. I will say that Jude Law was great as an actor in this movie. All in all I would say it was okay. I just wish there had more of an edge of your seat feeling, but instead it felt draggy and slow especially in the beginning. I wish I'd gone to see Identity Thief!

    Dark and depressing

Acting was great. If it weren't for the two hot famous actors, I would have been bored. Very slow but the filming and the suspenseful storyline kept me enthralled, I was not expecting any of the twists and turns. It got a little hectic towards the end otherwise if you like this sort of movie, I would recommend it. There are no laughs or smiles. It got darker and darker as it went. I left the movie not feeling good. I felt really depressed. If a movie can bring out an emotion that strong, the acting must have been pretty darn good. ( note: I don't take medication and I am not depressed normally)
