    I'm just not sure...

I'm not sure what it was about this movie... The plot line was really good. Maybe it was the acting? I saw Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and thought she was incredible. In Side Effects... not so much. Channing Tatum didn't quite seem to fit. Jude Law was fantastic. I really enjoyed him in this movie. I also really like Catherine Zeta-Jones, but there is one scene (which I will not describe in order to avoid a spoiler) that I just felt was awkward and insincere. It was not remotely believable. I liked a lot of the camera angles and lighting. It promoted the scenes well. There were a few scenes that the camera was really shaky. I liked the outcome of the movie. Maybe a different actor or two and it would have been better. I think it's worth seeing because the plot is good and it has some excellent twists right up until the end. But I wish I would have rented it after it came out on DVD rather than spent the exorbitant amount of money to see it in the theater

    Not what I expected

Channing Tantum did not have much of a role in the movie. Definatly a twist in the story line which I was not expecting.
It is probably a good movie but like i think I was expecting something a little different from the previews.

    Side Effects

This is an engrossing and disturbing film with interesting plot twists. Not recommended for those drawn to fluff, special effects and vampires, but strongly recommended to those drawn to a good plot involving complex human beings and excellent performances. Definitely not for children.

Wow! You Won't See It Coming!

What an entertaining movie - well acted by all. The twists and turns are such fun - you really cannot anticipate where this will go next so just let go and enjoy the ride. Jude Law does is quite convincing as the bewildered psychiatrist and Rooney Mara is quite convincing as the "victim" of unanticipated side effects. It's hard to say more without spoiing it all - just go!

Key Player I'm Happy to Announce - Jude Law!

    by abisola

I looked forward to this flick based on the good reviews here, but the truth is that if it weren't for Jude Law's Oscar nomination-deserving performance (proud of you, Jude!), I may have fallen asleep or walked out. I'll be routing for him next February to finally get a nod and it's
    about frickin' time.

    Well done thriller

This is a masterpiece of a psychological thriller. We loved it! There is a well written clever plot, fantastic writing and characters and top notch acting. Such a refreshing change from the non-stop violence of most thrillers.

    Side Effects "side" swiped me!

I was highly impressed with this film! There are elements of it that lead you to believe it is going to be cliche and not add much depth but the movie has a way of splitting itself into two "sides" that you never see meeting in the middle until almost the very end. Rooney and Jude own their characters and each take charge in their own way(s). The score is another thing worth mentioning: it adds such a disturbing factor to certain scenes in a way that is genius. I want to see this a second time because there are so many layers to it that I did get confused. Overall, it is a very well thought out film that starts out one way and ends up being something pretty different.

Glad I brought my meds with me...

Really good murder mystery thriller--or is it?. It grabbed me early on. I've had a few major side effects reactions in my life and a period where I was in medical limbo suffering and I think a lot of people will relate to the beginning of the story. Then it gets really engrossing. Great cast and I got my popcorn-worth with this one. Loved it. (where'd I put that bottle of Prozac?) what was I saying...?

    Enjoyed It

Great thriller, starts slowly then builds a tense mystery story. Jude Law and Rooney Mara are compelling leads, with Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones in strong supporting roles. Another good one by Stephen Soderbergh.

Read All Prescription Labels & Drug Warnings

    by winged1

I honestly LOVED "Side Effects"! It's quite a cerebral-type of thriller, and truly brings into question all those great moral and ethical dilemmas we see in the headlines today. Did the doctor exercise his best judgment? Is the medical community unduly influenced by personal gain due to their consultative relationships with the major pharmaceutical companies? Even more important, why is our society currently so prone to self-medicate?

The acting is great all-around, and I find it difficult to believe that director Steven Soderbergh claims this is his last film. Let's hope he's not quitting Hollywood and just taking a sabbatical. At any rate, "Side Effects" is a must.

    Decent Movie

    by Pat0211

A good movie with decent acting. I could somehow predict some aspects of the climax but all in all enjoyed the storyline.

From what I have read it's Soderberg's last movie and I think he goes out in style. Not my favorite movie by him though-I loved Traffic better- but again enjoyable experience.

It's not a movie I'd see again but if you're into thrillers you will most likely appreciate the denouement. And like Alfred Hitchcock used to say, don't tell the ending.

    Thoughtful and suspenseful

Its a sad commentary when a movie isn't action-packed, like Transformers or Skyfall, that so many say it's boring. The movie builds thoughtfully, and starts to lead you down the wrong path. Twists and turns make this a smart movie. If you're looking for big action, skip it, but if you want a well-written, well-acted movie, go for it. But pay attention, and stay awake, if you want to get the most out of this movie.

    Side Effects

Yet another case of some talking head movie critic going on a morning talk show and raving wildly about a movie and the movie itself not living up to the rave.
This movie is ok and the twist at the end is a surpise but dangggggg, it takes a looonnnnggg time to get there with lots of useless throw away shots that do not advance the plot imo.

On the plus side, Rooney Mara is really good though she plays yet another dark, moody edgy character. would be nice to see her in something light and upbeat to see if she has the chops for that. I really like her, but would just like to see her do something that isn't so derivative of her role in The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo.

Jude Law is excellent and carries the movie imo. Great actor!
All in all, an ok but not exceptional movie, critic's opinion not withstanding.
I think some critics are too much a part of the Hollywood movie industry and will offer up a positive review of a movie just because they like certain actors, directors etc.
