    Live a Little

    by

I didn't want to see this movie at all. The previews for it looked decent, but the advertising for the movie, overall, was terrible. They could have done so much with advertising, but I get that they spent fifty to sixty million on the movie--wowza! The two main characters weren't well-known, which was taking a risk, but the story was sweet and quirky, sometimes sexy and dangerous. This movie lets the lady take control and leaves the guy trailing behind, something that doesn't usually happen in movies; I really appreciated the female-driven plot. At first, the accent killed me, but I didn't really notice once the movie got going. It's a good movie to see, end of story. I just hope that viewers will give the two lead characters a chance and actually get to theaters, even if it's only because they were drawn in by secondary characters. Let's hope for more of the series!

    waste of a movie

    by

At first I was pleased...the casting seemed perfectly done in this movie. But as it wore on, it became clear that they so severely butchered the story line from the book to the point of making the plot weak and pointless and really not worth sitting through. Its such a shame as I really was excited to see this movie. I'm sure it was a budget issue, but this book coming to life provided so many exciting possibilities of using special effects to really bring the story to life and the result was just lackluster. Disappointed fan here.

Probably better if you havent read the books...

Still it was a cute movie, some good one liners, and the guy that played Ethan was really good at it.

I was a bit upset how it deviated from the book in some key places, left out some characters, and CGI'd the main villian instead of giving her a separate actress.

Overall I'd say go and enjoy it for what it is: a cute love story with supernaturals and magic.

    Great movie!

I haven't read the book, so that may be why I am not disappointed as many were. It was a great movie with a nice love story. Absolutely great actors! I doubted it a bit at first when I saw the trailers but I am sure glad I went through with seeing it. At no moment during the movie was I bored or felt disengaged. As the critic said, it was in my opinion, a bit better story between the two main cast members than Twilight. I definitely think it is worth seeing!
Other notes are it is something anybody can see and enjoy. It had some humor to it as well during several points and the graphics were really good.

    Entertaining

Unlike many who have reviewed this movie, I have the advantage of NOT having read the books so I can review the movie for what it is. It was entertaining. Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson were very good (as always) despite the movie's lack of continuity. The "newer" actors were not too bad either. I did feel like they were trying to cram as much as possible into 1.5 hrs. That doesn't work too well. However, if the movie were longer it would have been too much since it does at times move at a slow pace (and I do mean slow). There are no surprises here, just an OK movie to pass the time by yourself, with friends or a date.

Now for those who have read the books, I get the disappointment, but please keep in mind that very few book/movie adaptations are in alignment. If you just want to see a cute movie that is clean (no gore, language or nudity), I recommend you go. Otherwise, wait for the DVD.

    Beautiful, wonderful ,empowering

Intelligent scripting, wonderful performances by all and downright fun. Just when I thought it was going to be predictable I was pleasantly surprised. Special effects did what exactly should be happening. Enhancing the scene not stealing the scene. Maybe because I'm pagan I can appreciate the nuances, the deeper meaning of what is happening, the messages this movie is telling the viewers. The score by "thenewno2" was outstanding!!! Especially the second song during the credits. I left the movie actually feeling empowered. A must see!

It was a pleasant surprise to find that the movie was pretty humorous along with being kind of dark. This is definitely a good movie to see. :0)

Not disappointed - good teen movie

I?ve read the reviews by those that read the book & honestly, there hasn?t been a movie made that is as good as the book. The details are very rarely if ever close & too many events & people get changed that's why I don?t go to movie if I've read the book. I did not read this book nor did my grand daughter (16 yrs old) and we both thoroughly enjoyed this film. The story line of 2 teens falling in love & overcoming the odds was in the believable category & the film was well acted. It was nice not to have to cringe or be embarrassed by overly sexual acts or fowl language. Pleasant & feel good movie.

awesome if you didnt read the books

    by

The movie was a ton funnier then I thought it was going to be. the story was good and I think the execution was done very nicely. I was kind of iffy on the movie since it was adapted from a book, but since I didn't read the book both my wife and I enjoyed it very much. We are both going to read the books which I have read reviews on and are way better then the movie itself, but I hope they continue the series on the screen for the other three books.

    Beautiful Creatures

I rather liked it. It was not at all what I was expecting. The previews made it sound like it was going to have more angsty teen drama, and family politics, but it was really just a nice, if odd story about a boy and a girl. The casting was great, and the story moved along quite nicely.

    Good, but something missing

I really enjoyed it, but kept feeling like some crucial information was missing. Really light on back story, and that made it hard to understand the motivations of the supporting characters. But excellent performances by the entire cast, and the effects didn't swamp the story.

    Beautiful Creatures

If you like fantasy and mystery, you are in for a treat! This was a wonderful whimsical yet at times sinister movie. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing it and would see it again.

    A Total Abomination

Let me start by saying I had no issues with the cast. The young lady who played Lena was very good, Ethan was totally adorable, and Viola Davis and Jeremy Irons were magnificent, as always. If you are a fan of the books like I am, you will find this movie appalling. Some idiot took a lovely, intricate story of life, love, and loss weaved together over the course of 4+ books and turned it into an hour and thirty minutes of pure crap. So much is wrong in the movie that it would probably easier just to indicate what they got right, and even that is a stretch. I hated this film and I sincerely hope they don't add insult to injury by making a second.

    Meh

This was not too bad of a movie for people who have NOT read the book. For those who have, speaking for myself, I felt it could have been much better. It was as if the director's skimmed the book and transposed the 'gist' of it into a movie. I think they also had a low budget to work with which is why one of the main characters in the book (Marian) was not present and Amma filled two roles.

    Very different

If you like witchcraft and mystery, you'll enjoy this movie. I was very eager to go see it. The movie was a little different from what I thought it would be but I really enjoyed it. The actress who plays Lena is a doll & I thought she did a great job. It could have used about 30 more minutes to give more details but overall it was good. I think as the movies go along-they'll get better. I look forward to seeing the others, but until then I thnk I'll read the books!
